ive tried the bulbs but still have no light but am still getting illumination from the heater and electric windows is it known for the switches to be faulty and the switch it it turning all my exterior lights on fine
-
Assuming you have checked the fuses I would check the switch. I have had one where the slider that runs on the dimmer broke off and shorted it out... eventually setting the car on fire. Well worth checking even if its not at fault! Ben.

yeah checked the fuses m8 yeah believe that if the resister goes in the switch linked to the dimmer that will stop the illumination to the clocks its just strange how im getting light from the heater panel and elec windows
-
elec window switch lights are always on with the ignition, but the heater slider gets power from the switch same as the other switches and the clocks. The headlight switch bulb also should come on with the ignition, but almost always blown in a MK2 because of this. I'd say you have a snapped wire somewhere behind the dash, or all the switches and dash bulbs have blown, which is possible. Get yourself a multimeter/test lamp, pop the switches out and check for 12v between the grey/blue & brown wires.

thanks will do have seen one on ebay yeah thats probably what it is as some of the switches are not showing illumination so as you said there probably blown as for broken wires behind the dash I have checked that but probably a multimeter will be the best option.
