Title: Just nailed an R32
Post by: keyser on 14 February 2009, 15:25
Driving back  from a mates house today and noticed a silver R32 in my rear view mirror approaching very quickly.  We were on a single lane of traffic with a small stretch of dual carriageway a few miles ahead.  Took my time to make sure it wasn't the plod as they are known to drive R32s were I'm from. Young guy with what looked liked his girlfriend with him.

Approaching the carriageway with no traffic in front of me, he was right up my a**e and obviously wanting to pass.  I stayed in the inside lane and he took the outside. No contest!  I couldn't believe how much quicker I was.  Back into a single lane of traffic and another dual carriageway about 2 miles further on. Same thing again.  He tried to overtake on the outside lane, but was left behind.

I love my GTI!  I was always unsure how I would fair against one but am chuffed to bits.  I still think the R32 is a fantastic car with probably one of the best noises I have ever heard.  I suppose I have got used to the power but I didn't realise how quick this car is.

....Exactly! I was about to post that the R32 driver probably had more sense than to start a willie-waving contest.

A willie-waving contest?  I'm sure you've never had a heavy right foot

Well... its pretty obvious when an R32s going for it - the sound is unmistakeable....  However, he probably wasn't going for it if you left him behind that fast.  I reckon upto 80/90mph an R32 would be slower - but only just - than a remapped GTI, but not much difference at top end.  As for a remapped Ed30, well thats another matter altogether

I wouldn't know about 80/90 mph so I'll take your word for it    I pretty sure he was going for it though as that glorious engine was very vocal!  I'm not saying I left him sitting still, just that I comfortably edged ahead.

Slightly harsh considering I've been absolutely harmless, helpful to others whenever I can and thanked those whenever they have helped me for probably 630 of my 635 posts...

There are plenty on here that are worse than me!

(I am not suggesting that it is a post contest, that was merely an example)

Not really the pointless comments and digs are what keep me out of this section,  perfect example being your response.

Proberly not the best place to advertise the fact you were racing against an R32. Already one  guy is about to loose his licence for the very same thing.

Think twice before Posting peeps. If that doesnt get you, then the hawks in this place will
