Hey guys, just got my '89 mk2 16v back from garage last night after having a new water pump back on.
Went to garage and filled up, started car fine, drove home and went to bed.
Go to start car this morning and it just turns over but no attempt at firing up.
Had new battery last month, ignition switch last year.
I've replaced leads and distributor cap with spares I have and also the coil but still doesn't attempt to fire.
Fuel pump is priming as it should.
Any ideas? :undecided:
Cheers.

it definately doesnt spark?
-
Haven't checked the actual spark for fear of electrocuting myself.
Is there a safe way of doing this?
Sorry, I said spark at end of my original post. I meant it still doesn't attempt to fire up.

Rest a spark plug on the rocker cover attatched to a lead , then get some one to turn it over and look see what your getting
OR
plastic pliers
OR
be brave LOL

Was getting spark so connected a jump lead from negative battery to engine and it fired up.
Just taken Earth lead off and cleaned it all up so hopefully sorted.
Car decided to claim the end of my thumb though so I'm spewing blood everywhere!!!
Got 3 plasters on and it's still dripping through.......oh dear!!!

Run car up to temp, apply bleeding end of thumb to rocker cover to seal the blood vessels. Reattach plasters.

nah rocker cover no good, zaust manifold ot cauterise wounds
while you're there, give all the earth wires to the head a good clean, and the 3 sensors on the side of the head :)

Just to let ya know it was deffo the Earth. Haven't had a problem starting since I cleaned it up.
Oh, and I've still got my thumb even though it's killing me!!!
