Title: Golf GTI 8v - Mk2 - Advise.....
Post by: knobby on 02 July 2004, 19:45
Hey Guys

New to the Golf scene, had GTI's before but not Golfs, got a bargin 1986 Golf GTI 8v for ?75 quid. Its a ripper, have enjoyed driving it over the past few weeks just think its time to start playing with it.

Ok apparently its been sent to a company called TSR and had the engine tuned or bored not so sure, but all the paper work from this company now say its a 1900cc not 1800cc. It seems quick and very touquie!!!

Just really want to know about the air box hole cutting mod and the throttble body conversion to a Audi 2.2L, ive been told that the throttle body mod will make loads of differnece and the air box i will just get a load of nice (that sounds cool)

Also got some springs to lower it about 30mm..

Let me know what u guys say.....

CHeers

Dave

Well i was thinkin the fact that mines now a 1900cc instead of the 1800cc thats got to be a advantage over the rest as it stands now.. have just been offered the Throttle body for free so was gonna try it out and the air box mod i heard sounds great. Im just messing about with an old car for a bit of fun, got a GSXR1000 in the garage that me real fun!

Depends what conversion it has done on it. My mate had a 8v years ago and got a extra 30BHP for 2K! But enjoy the car it sfun.................................his was slightly faster than a 16v in 1st and 2nd.

Cue Marcus! :P

Hello! :D

75 quid for a complete car which has been bored out is a bargain!

the audi 2.2 throttle body trick works on mk1's, but the mk2's already have larger throttle bodies as I was all set to do that to my 8v until halfway through removing the old one I noticed it was exactly the same size. maybe it'd already been done before I got the car, but it was no different to the one I got from the scrapper.

The Audi throttle body is bigger than both the mk1 and mk2.

Yep happened to me to... Took about four hours to change the springs over but its not dropped just over 40mm all round and it looks the daddy (well for ?75 quid & Free springs!), the handling is now far better the roads were wet yesterday but had some great fun going round roundabouts side ways, has just added so much more feel. Have to watch out for the old speed bumps though! So yes fitted all the springs thinking yes still got the throttle body to go, thinking the car is already pretty quick as it is so its gonna be great with the throttle body with most people saying a increase of 10-20 BHP. Buy yeh took the old one off and ITS THE SAME. doh.. was well disappointed, cleaned the old one up and drilled a load of holes in the air box and it now barks... Would recommend that mod, only really get the noise under load and when at about 4-6000 RPM, but its very entertaining.

Whats next??? Alloys me thinks.. Anyone got any spare??
