Hi,
I want to replace my old pierburg 2e2 to weber for Golf 2 1.8 Syncro 1986.
I found the weber kit for the direct replacement:
WEBER 32/34 DMTL CARB KIT VW GOLF 1781cc 1983-91
Part: 2267092000
http://www.fastroadcars.co.uk/shop/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=32
I would like to ask you if I should to replace something else that is not included in the kit.
Regards,
Me

Go for the webber kit, much better carb.

The Weber is a far more simple unit, with much less to go wrong and fail.
In my experience it has added 10MPG to several cars that I've replaced a Pierburg.
The engine's also had more grunt and wanted to rev more.
HIGHLY recommended.

Weber is the way forward.
never had any problems with mine and did get beter MPG than with the pierburg.

the only reason you'll get more mpg/power with a webber is if the 2e2 isnt working properly. its a myth that they add power on a std car, but if you have one with modifications the webber has the advantage of being much eaier to rejet than a 2e2.
that plus repairing a 2e2 can be hard work, especially now that MK2s arnt so common down the scrap yards, back when I had mine they used to get a couple new ones every fortnight or so, so i had my pick of spares. Once I got it going it was very good, used to get near 300 miles to £20 thanks to the 4+e box it had.

Holy crap 300miles from £20, I'm doing something wrong I think  I think it does need the timing setting up.
Not sure what box I have, It doesn't seem to 'pull' as well in 5th than the other gears, when doing appropriate speeds. I'm guessing it's a 4+e?

And that's the sound of someone missing the point.
People ditch Pierburgs because they don't run right. They don't run right because they wear out and break.
The point of installing a Weber (one 'b') is that it's a simple and elegant device. It isn't the absurdly over-complicated piece of junk that an old Pierburg turns into BECAUSE even if the Weber is old, because it's simple it remains efficient and continues to return good MPG and performance. The only thing to ensure on the Weber is that it's clean, correctly jetted and the simple mechanisms operating it work.
There is too much to go wrong on a Pierburg and inevitably it does go wrong.
Horses for courses and the Pierburg is a lame horse on a cross country endurance course.
KISS works for me.

webbers chokes are a FAIR bit bigger thats what helps it give more grunt. it's a very widely used simpel effective carb a LOT of cars used the 32/34 DMTL and the autochoke variant from the factory
on the golf syncro the extra bit of power makes it a LOT more fun. just need the k jet dizzy and a slightly bumpyer cam and the car will start showing some of it's potential.
you will be wanting some 256mm or bigger brakes tho

If you read what I wrote properly, you would see that I said the same thing. If its working right the 2e2 is a great carb. If its not it can give you lots of grief unless know what you are doing. Even if you DO know what you are doing if someone has fiddled with it trying to fix the problem it can and will turn into a nightmare.
A webber is a nice easy fix, and is also good for some nice tweaks in the future. At no point did I say either was better, as you said, hourses for courses.

here is a point to argue over, take the pirburg 2e2 off a ford cvh engine. same basic carb as the vw one but it dosen't have as much stuff around it and bolts straight on. seems to be the way of getting a reliable 2e2
