Hi,
Looking to make my 1.8t shift a bit more....i,m a newbie! :-[
1...A dump valve has everyone got one are they easy to fix?
2....Chipping your car is it worth ?500 does it really work? to you have to change anything else to allow for the extra torque?
or should i just leave it has it is....

Chipping/Remapping deffo works.
Watch out for Tophuh and Starry in here. They've remapped their 1.8Ts with great success. With a few other tweaks you should be able to get 200 horses out of your motor. 8)

Hi Andy,
A quick flick through the posts in this mk4 section should convince you that chipping/remapping a 1.8T is well worth the money.
The only part that is absolutely necessary to change is the stock diverter valve (or dump valve) since the vw part just dies under the pressure of the increased boost, if you know what you're doing or have a decent "how to" guide handy you can fit one of these in under 20 minutes. You might want a change of pants too (for when you put your foot down) ;D
If you're asking about the kind of valve that makes a loud PSSSHHT when you let off the gas.. they're not recommended at all for your car. There are some new hybrids being released but i'm still waiting on some reviews of those.
Driveshafts / clutch / gearbox will all be fine left as standard.. until you start producing silly amounts of torque in excess of 300lb ft. You're talking thousands of ??'s to get to that stage though so no need to worry.

i tried one of these hybrids on me FR and no they do not work, all they did was cause waste gate chatter, which i was told is not good, i sold mine on a GFB Hybrid valve, which is 50% recirc 50% 50% atmos

I read about this new greddy type-s conversion that apparently works, guy on seat website said his did'nt,
I know some do work as i have seen wo golfs with pttssh dump valves and a couple of TT's up southend
Anyone know of any others, i miss the sound of my old punto GT.

you can run an atmospheric dump valve if you're running standalone management. it's the VAG management that doesn't like the loss of air and cuts the engine.
I think mine has wastegate chatter all the time. Hopefully when I get a forge DV on there it'll sort it out.
There's a great article about the 20vT in this month's Golf+ mag. Aparently the internals are good for 500bhp!
I'm thinking of doing a k04 upgrade on mine, but don't like the idea of more lag even though mine comes on about 2500rpm at the mo running 12psi. I'm going to get it on a RR and sort it out properly and then look at uprating the fuel deliverly as I think this is the first point of call instead of just adding more boost to the mix. Probably off to Jabba with 500 notes in a few months. Defiently getting a forge DV and a decent exhaust system made up before that happens though.

12 psi ?!? something not right there mate :-\ You chucking out any black smoke when you floor it ?
Check all the hose connections are nice and tight, especially the ones to the intercooler as they have a tendency to loosen.

By CCC tuning you must mean UPsolute, who are certainly cheaper than revo. Your car -should- be one of the early DBW models, which means any revo dealer will give you a free 5 hour trial !
In general revo seems to produce higher figures than UPsolute, take the trial and see if you like it enough to splash ?500 on it. If not, then go UPsolute.
