Title: Just ordered my VR6 front spoiler
Post by: chrisf70 on 12 February 2009, 20:34
Off ebay, hope it's an easy job as I don't like difficult ones!

I have been looking to get the vr upgrade splitter mate but reading up, quite a few people have had probs with these either not fitting properly or just being poor quality overall!

Easy to fit, however some of the pattern ones never clip on very well.

regarding the issue of quality... isnt that because some of them are buying cheap knock off nigel ones!

There are two types, hard plastic and soft plastic.

So which is better hard plastic or soft plastic? Does anyone know if this one will be OK, as it is on its way to me it does say that it is High Quality ABS Plastic(?). If it's no good it'll be going back on ebay.

It's impossible to say what is best.... I have a cheap goingfast splitter from the bay and have had no issues in over 2 years (apart from the grazes on it!)...yet others have broken them on the first day or two!! I think it's down to luck on how/if it survives!! :undecided:

I bought one from ebay (goingfast) it fitted fine with no problems. but was however a bit flimsy and did get smashed to pieces.

Just buy the best you can find, as you may find you get through a few cheapo ones.when if you had bought the better one it would never have broken and lasted a hell of alot longer.

Harder plastic will break easier, the original seems a slightly softer compound so will take a bit more abuse

as said the softer compound one can take more abuse, but it is the one that can graze if hit against a kerb, what you have to remember is you actually have one on the car.... so make sure you dont hit a kerb, dont drive straight at one! if you need to get up a kerb go at an angle.

Friend has put a seat Leon Cupra R on his 206Gti and that doesnt go near kerbs, think of the front splitter as a GRP front bumper that will smash to pieces if it touches a kerb (that should stop you from wanting to get too close lol)

Cheers for the advice. I'll be keeping the GTI one, so if the VR one gets smashed up I'll stick the GTI one back on.

I have had 3 from goingfast first one fitted fine but as below got broke with a low curb, ordered 2 more from them and they would not clip on.

Tempted to do this. Want to fo it on the GL though, it's not even my car lol!

So far mudflaps and a GTi Spoiler has been put on it. Want to put some GTi lights on it too. Then some smoked headlights. I suppose the insurance company would need to know of HIDs?

My front bumper hasnt got any clips on the front  obviously the previous owner snapped them off when it hit the floor one time.

I had a goingfast one and had 3 screws along the front to hold it in and keep it lined up but within 20 mins it snapped where one of the screws was (hit the floor).

Ordered another one from them though but will be getting a genuine one within the next month so I have a spare VR6 one

P.S I never even thought about declaring my HID's :undecided:

You should really declare everything and that includes rear spoilers, tinted lights front and back and debadged grilles etc
you dont want to give them any ammo should you make a claim!! I have body modifications and lighting changes listed on my mod sheet (so basicaly I can do nearly anything! without needing to tell them)

Ah right cheers :)

Ive got body mods (was advised because of the bumpers/grill and side strips not being standard), lights, exhaust, alloys and suspension declared. Guess Ill just ring up and make sure its all in check then

So we should tell them about the spoiler and the mudflaps? The mudflaps were an option and I wouldn't of thought they would of minded about the spoiler as that was an option as well wasn't it?

Not as bad as my sisters BF, Fiesta, guy before had put neons on it, when sisters BF asked insurane about neons, they said it would shoot up. So he hasn't told them, he doesn't use them though. Also waiting for an induction kit for it, he doesn't want to tell them about that either.

It's covered on mine under body mods......but anything thats non standard (inc bulbs ) should be declared.......... I doubt mr insurance would make an issue but with the economy being bad I wouldnt be surprised if they do start getting picky!!
I know some people fax a full list of everything fitted to the valve caps just to make sure!!

Any change from standard should be declared.

Ahh well, I'm not gonna bother with declaring badges.

Should only be an admin fee of £35?? I declare all current and future mod's at the start of my insurance (saves paying £35 everytime I get bored!!)

My VR6 chin spoiler has arrived! Looks well made. On the underneath lip there are 4 preformed holes, are these there if a splitter was to be added?

I want to know where all of these replica stuff is made / supplied. Would buy them up in bulk like these buggers do and start selling on ebay / shows.

As nobody was selling vr6 splitters at edition last year.....

I would think they would sell direct to be honest.

But they have to come from somewhere? Otherwise how did this new person on ebay get hold of them to sell?

Got to be supplied from somewhere.
