Title: Insurance: MK1 GTI - 1.9 Engine!!!
Post by: gee on 02 July 2004, 15:56
Need some help guys, trying to find someone to insure my MK1 for a reasonable price. It has a 1.9 engine so it might cause problems. Do I need to find someone who deals with mods? Do any of you modified MK1 owners know of anyone reasonable and cheap?  ???

I have a '92 Sportline GTI cabriolet, that I pay ?250 FC, protected NCB, I'm 30 with 6 points for speeding.
It's insured through A-plan, but go to them with a half decent quote and they will try and beat it.

the tel no. is
01635874646

Or you could go to confused.com, they will go off and get you quotes for about 20 companies, not sure if there is opportunity to list your mods as it's internet based but when you get prices back you could always ring any of the cheaper companies to see what they can do for you.  :)

i think ur going to struggle getting an online quote with that engine conversion to be honest.  its not gonna b on any databases. :-\

i think your best of trying  elephant or brentacre.  there always seem to come up cheapest 95% of the time for gti's.  be careful for the company that sounds cheap but then whacks on a load if your paying in instalments.

ads - 250 is a one off!!  thats a scottish address u cheat  ;) :D

I haven't called APlan or Adrian Flux yet, but am hitting everyone else for now. The quotes I am getting are out of this world! One place said ?2k  :o WTF!!!
Still calling around to get the best possible price.... had a clean licence and history up until last October. Now I have 3 points, 1 fault claim, and 1 non-fault claim thats still pending  :'(
Anyone else know of some really good places for quotes?  ???

I ve got a mk1 Gti 1.9 too

Im insured with Adrian Flux with ALL mods declared:

Repray in yellow (used to be red)
Bored out to 1.9
Performance Cam
Performance air filter
Four branch manifold
Full supersprint stainless exhaust
Lowered
Uprated brakes
Non standard alloys
delocked boot
All plastic trim removed
Single headlight debadged grill with grill spoiler
Cat 2 immobiliser

21 years old four years no claims and clean license for ?545 which I thought was pretty good considering mods and age. no else has come close. None of the internet ones will touch me and I ve tried other places who quoted in excess of ?2000!!!!!

Closest other was HIC at ?700

Had to send photos and fill out a modified car report but they seem pretty good at adrian flux. Try them. If you can try and get an agreed value rather than market value because thats so vague.
