Title: G60 Hesitation
Post by: 993turbo on 12 February 2009, 03:40
My G60 (bug standard) seems to ''hesitate'' whilst cruising along on part throttle. It seems like is loosing power like an instant misfire, and it only lasts for about a quarter of a second or so.

This only happens when cruising along steadily on part throttle.....

Any ideas, anyone?

Why dont you blast it for 20 miles and see if that makes a difference. Just go nuts along some minor roads and try to spit some sh1t out.

You may be getting an intermittent track accross the plug leads. Re-arrange your plug leads so that they take a different route and try to separate them. If the problem goes away, then you have your answer and you require new leads.

BTW, only just got your email. I have a set of newly refurbished Sebrings that I am not sure what to do with. (Although one now has slight rim damage due to some stupid Italian who did not have a fcukin clue on how to fit tyres. Cnut!)

Just sold mine on.  World's heaviest 15" OEM wheels EVA.  9.3KG.  Only wheel I've weighed that was heavier was an 18" Audi thing.

Sounds like the famous digi-lag to me. Is the ECU/mapping still standard?

@ Darn PB: I will rearrange the HT leads and see if there is any improvement. Also, could you send me an email with pics of the wheels.

@ topher: So you are suggesting that a ever so slight hesitation whilst on part throttle is common with the digi G60's? The car is factory standard.

Yes it is commonly known as "digi-lag" and if that is indeed the problem you are suffering, companies such as SNS offer ECU chips to resolve it.

Checking the timing is spot on will help with the digi lag too!

Check rubjonny's guide in the maintenance section :)

Dumb newbie question: Can the timing be adjusted on these car, or is it all electronic???? I cannot recall having adjouted the timing on any cars since I sold my last 911SC........ LOL

My car being a 90' I take it that it has catalytic converter....? or....?

Yup, via the distributor, g60 runs digi 1.

Have you checked the vacuum hose between throttle body and ecu, it has to be exactly 1m long and not have any leaks.

I will check the hose.

a CO of 1,8 seems a bit high on a car with a catalytic converter.....? hmmm....? Any info on this?

Any links to this company? Can this be combined with a smaller compressor wheel to increase power?

No, that's OK. It really needs to be richer rather than leaner, but it certainly does not want to be any higher. It easy enough to tweak down anyway. If I lived closer to you, I would come and take a butchers. Even have a little photoshoot with the two 60's for everyone's envious pleasure and obvious piss taking!
To time the engine though, if you have the smaller intercooler mounted flat in the engine bay, then this will need to be removed to see the timing marks on the flywheel. This would mean that the engine will be 'uncharged' and the compressor makes a hell of a noise, but it will not make any difference to the end result.

check the timing if its retarded youll probably be suffering poor pick up. worth a check if you can get hold of a timing light.

I will check my timing... I have a timing light etc.. No worries.

I have the ''flat type'' of Intercooler.. its laying at an angle in the engine bay.... Its a car with AC.

Yeah, would love to meet up with another G60 owner.. Its a nice little car.. But madrid ia quite a drive from Banus :-)

1.8 co is checked at the sniffer pipe before the cat, if you got 1.8 co after the cat then either summat is really wrong or the cat isnt there :)

Check the lambda is giving outputs within range - it might be knackered.

What fuel you using? I had a similar problem with my G briefly when I was stuck with putting a tenner of tesco 99ron in my tank..30quid of shell's finest and a good blast and it was all good again :)
