Title: sports mode in DSG gearbox for 05 gti can't get into 5th/6th gear
Post by: dots1982 on 11 February 2009, 23:41
Hi All

I'm having no luck getting my gti into anything about 4th gear in sports mode. It goes into 5th and 6th fine outside sports mode. Can anyone advise on this and how much a fix would cost?

I'm having one or two other problems aswell you guys may be able to help with, my tire pressure warning is on all the time even though all tires have enough air. Lastly the odd time especially in cold weather I'll get a check engine coolant warning when I start the car, I have to shut it off for 2 mins and then its ok. This is even after I have refilled the engine coolant.

thanks

I think this is the first Mk5 mechanical/electrical problem I've read in this section (Perhaps I've just never clicked on them??).  Makes a refreshing change from talking about our rusty old motors   .

Top man Dots !

P.S.   I haven't got a f##king clue how to fix it by the way !!!     My Mk2 has got less intelligence than an 80s speak'n'spell...

Only just spotted this after reading your other post..

Tyre warning - you need to reset that yourself once your tyres are at the right pressures. With the ignition on hold down the tyre button next to the ash tray until you hear the 'bong' and the dash light will go out.

The coolant level warning in cold weather is a well known 'bug' that has effected golfs since the last generation. Sometimes it does literally need just an extra dribble in the expansion tank, but most of the time its just the cold weather affecting the sensor. You can either just live with it or get a new expansion tank with the sensor built in.

The dsg thing is not something i've heard of before but there are a couple of people I can ask, but can you clarify first if it's not upshifting with the paddles or is it just staying in 4th with your foot down?
