Right just bought a mates MK2 golf gti 8v 5dr 1992 J run out oakgreen 102K fsh originally sourced for him off the forum needing paint from vandal scratches and still does now missing the RA's but they werent great. He has added a 4 branch full stainless induction kit lowered etc
allready have a 1991 3dr swartz black not metalic gti 16V 269K fsh and engine rebuild by ourselves car is as near mint as you can get two rust spots both on the roof and a tiny bit on bottom of drivers door also completely standard apart from sportline ra's
can only keep one car really as a toy as allready have a mk3 cab as a daily rough around the edges and a project audi s4 1991 j 120k dealer plus one owner so cant really keep two mk2's aswell!
so do I sell the 16v and get the oakgreen back to standard and resprayed or keep the 16v restore the oakgreen back to standard and sell it, so not sure any ideas.
re the mileage on the 16v if you saw the car you wouldnt believe the mileage when I was using it at the weekends over the summer most people guessed the mileage to be around 80 to 100K seeing it inside and out.
-
I'd have the 16v, mainly becasue its a 3door and black is my favourite colour!
-
Seems like a no-brainer to me. Tatty 8v or decent 16v, and it doesn't sound like you'll not make much profit by keeping the 8v, as it needs body work etc.
I would keep the 16v.
-
16v. Because, lets face it, 16vs are better.
-
thanks for the input guys kinda thinking this myself thing is the black one is so clean so worried it will get keyed when I am out in it where as oakgreens seem to blend in more specially being a 5dr and its only scratches the car is far from tatty.

But you can't beat a black 3dr imo :undecided:
-
Keep the 3door then stick a G60 init 8V too
-
16v
3dr black, cant ask for more!!!
-
I'd keep the 3 door too.
I've just sold my black 5dr 8 valve and bought a oak 3dr 16v. Much happier now

Once you go Black...
-
ditch the 5 door
-
I'd change the oil in the 16V to prepare it for the next 100k.
Let's face it, you love that Golf so much you wouldn't be able to let it go anyway.
I'm sure someone would like to buy a nice Oakgreen, restored by a pro.
And it won't take you very long, right?
-
8V in oakgreen.
-
gert very true spoken to the paint shop and they reckon can sort if for less than £200 going to remove the fourbranch, stainless and the lowered shocks and put it back to standard

Then stand back and admire the swirls

and damaged alloys because they used some industrial cleaner
-
oooh.. sorry for all you bufty types. But frankly .. I don't give a toss! it's a car, not a trailer queen. It gets used everyday and I live with it. Its not your so WGAF?
Do you really care so much about the swirls? It's an old car with old paint. There's going to be swirls, scratches, dents etc.
But honestly, Do I care????

So robiwill which one you gonna keep :undecided:
I have an Oak Green more door so i would say keep the Green one but its up to you son
-
going to keep the 16v sell the oakgreen but sort out all the niggles on it too. picked it up tonight and drove it and a few things annoying loose suspension bolts heater only on max missing pass side arch and sill cover more annoyingly the key jams in the ignition lock. should have the niggles sorted tomorrow and removed the induction kit back to a standard airbox with k&N filter then off to the paintshop get that sorted then fit a set of polished estorells with correct 185/55/15 tyres as currently on 14 inch castellets new mot and sell it
-
You know it makes sense.
There's nothing quite like a valver pulling hard past 4.....5......6,000rpm
-
How much you sellin it for Robin
-
with all the work listed above ie paint, wheels mot will have it up for £1995 which is way less than the likes of other vw mk2 specialist would have it up for based on mileage and condition ie dents none rust none would expect them to have it up at £3495.
as it stands would take £1400 ovno with the annoying niggles sorted including a full lockset with matching vag key doors boot ignition glove box, sorted the heater motor and suspension today as been busy with other cars tomorrow sort out the airbox the locks and the arch and side skirts thursday.
