A few of the differences on post '88 cabs that I know, include the exhaust system, Steering splines, and Instrument pod . So its not inconcievable there are others
-
As far as i know the suspensions on mk1's and cabs are the same.
-
there must be a slight difference cos when u look at suspension. be it coilovers or springs they do a different price for the mark 1 and the cab.
taken from awesomegti site
eibach springs
Springs
Mk1 Golf - ?110
Mk1 Golf Cabrio - ?115
Scirocco - ?100
Mk2 Golf 8v - ?100
Mk2 Golf 16v - ?110
Jetta 8v - ?110
Jetta 16v - ?110
Mk3 Golf - ?110
Vento - ?110

The parts may not be identical, as the cars are different in weight.
But the suspension setup for the mk1/cab/scirocco are the same.
-
i would assume the springs were stiffer (or at least the progression rate). on the cab to compensate for weigt

I'm fairly certain that post and pre '88 cabs use different springs.
