Engine Management light has come on and have taken it to garage and they have informed me that the throttle body needs replacing. Part alone is about £300 + about an hours labour.
Is a second hand throttle body an option or should that be avoided?? Moving house at the moment so i need a cheap fix really. Is it ok to leave... not to bothered about the reduced acceleration to much??
Thanks in advance!

what code?

what code?
Code as in VAG Code?? Not sure, but he's a golf specialist and has assured me that the TB needs replacing. I asked him if it could be cleaned and he just said no. He said the voltages that are coming out of it are all wrong making the acceleration jerky.
I've no idea about cars, hence the post on here

Just find one of an old car and fit it yourself. You could probably get it done quite cheaply.

Just found one on a breaker website for £100 which is pretty reasonable.... usual 3 mnt guarantee... may think about getting that one :undecided:
If anyone has any tips as to how to fit it myself that would be greatly appreciated!

what code?
Think he was reffering to you engine code  you can find it on the left hand side of your engine actually just look above the throttle boddy and you shoudl see 3 letters stamped in the metal

I would check with VW first, I was quoted £150 last year would not have thought it would have gone up that much. If you look at the throttle body clean for the removal should not take you long. 4 allen bolts and a jubilee clip. Also the electrical connector.
-
Yeah cleaned mine on Sunday, it took me all of 10 mins to remove it. Four allen bolts and a couple of jubilee clips for hoses.
-
very very easy job if you was to do it yourself.
even a someone with minimal skills could do it in a hour

Just get the one from eBay and give it a go yourself.

Ony thing with ebay is that if there is an intermitent fault on it you may not find out until the warrenty is up.

Thanks for all the advice as usual!
I managed to get one off ebay for £19.95.... it has supposedly come off an Audi TT with only 5K engine use (not too sure about that).
Anyway. Once i have fitted it, which i am going to try and do myself does anything need doing on VAG??? Cos i dont have that.
Thanks again
