Title: Mk3 Golf Won't Start
Post by: DMackie on 09 February 2009, 22:43
My car didn't start today, had a guy come out and look at it and thought it could be the starter motor or the solenoid on it that could be gone.
Scanned it with vag-com and got the following error

Cylinder 1 CKP Sensor

Anyone anble to help me
When I try to start the car the fuel pump primes but i only get a click when i try to start it.

Cheers DMackie

Sounds like the starter or the solenoid.

Belt the starter with a hammer (a single good percussive blow) and then try starting it - the solenoid might just be jammed.  They do that before they expire completely.  I had a Land Rover a few years ago that needed a bash every time it was started.  Fine unless you just stalled at a busy road junction.

that code I think is the crank sesnor, if so it will be flagged up if tyou read the codes with the engine off.  even if the crank sensor was on fire in a ditch it wouldnt cause the problem you're having, sounds like a low battery or starter issue as DH said.  Put it in 3rd and rock the car, this sometimes worked on my gfs old polo.

How accessable is the stater motor?
Anyone got a pic of it on a ABF engine bay
