I've just bought a nice 05 GTI (pics on the way after I have given it a good clean), but there isn't an aerial on the roof as you would expect.
So, two questions:
1) where is it (in the rear heated window)?
2) was it a factory option to have the conventional roof aerial deleted?
The car is a five door and there isn't any obvious sign of the aerial being removed by a previous owner. The manual doesn't mention anything about it either way.

yeah its in the rear window.
VW cost cutting, meant that from 06 it went back on the roof.
-
Pretty sure they were fitted in/on the rear screen for that year. They later went back to the bee sting aerial as the reception was better.

Cheers guys

They must of only had it on for 6 months, I have a 55 and it has an aerial.
-
your 55 is probably an 06 model year.

Mine was an 2005/05 June build and reg, but 06 1K6 spec and had a roof aerial
-
My 05 doesnt have one and I always wondered what the deal was with but always forgot to ask. Well done that man :)

Yeah as an added bonus us early 05 boys have the hidden aerial, 10 speakers, blue tinted glass and silver astray cover.

Get in !!! :D

.......must admit the blue tinted glass looks great. What colour do they use now then ? back to boring green i guess ?.
-
Yeah it's green. Blue would have looked the dog's danglies!
-
.......must admit the few early ones i've seen with the blue tint look ace ,bit like them top of the range mercs.
-
I much prefer the early hidden aerial look than the bee sting. Plus the blue galss looks super cool. Can anyone explain why blue galss is cheaper than green glass. is it because of lead content or something?
-
green glass all the way!

I've found out from the VIN that mine (well, I don't have it yet, but hoping to pick it up this Saturday) apparently has blue glass, 10 speakers (RCD300) but has the bee sting aerial - not the integrated one. Does that make sense? It's a '06 registered Irish car (I'm in Ireland), and it's apparently 2006 model year too. Left the factory in October 2005.

heres mine... (05) 55 plate MY06........
