Taking apart headlights, painting the insides black, and smoking the glass and rebuilding them.
I think i know exactly how to do it, but ive heard u cant mask the lenses as it pulls the chrome off, and im also not sure on the best way to smoke the glass, or the best paint to use to paint the insides. So a thread would be helpful on a good way to do it?
Cheers
Mike

found a few how-to's but not of anything VAG, and the lights they do seperate into more peices.
Hmmm help?

Put them in an oven or something, a few people have done it in the MK3 section...

yeah cheers mate, that part i have done. i just dunno what paint i need, and how to smoke the inside of the glass, maybe use that tint spray stuff you get. Dont want to mess it up, as they are vento lights and not the mk3 ones :(

Let me know how you get on with smoking the inside of the lens mate, might do that to the ones ive got
I think its just regular paint around the non reflective bits though.

So far i have took the glass off, and then took the inside chrome part out. Icy of ed38 says i dont need to tint the glass, just spray the insides of the plastic matt black, then paint the unused chrome parts matt black too.
Went and bought matt black paint, and brushes, and masking tape, but forgot the spray paint for the plastic cases, and its raining, cba to go back out, so will get it later on this afternoon when i have to go, and continue the trial.
Im doing this one on a old mk3 lamp i have about, so i dont mess up the vento lights on my first attempt

ok, got the spray now as i thought i shouldnt be so lazy, lets give it a go!

Check out ed38, I had mine done by a guy on there.

You use hammerite smooth and only paint the outside of the chrome bit. can paint anything that is not smooth. Dont use masking tape. it will peel the chrome off.
Put light in the oven for 5 mins a 70*C , take out and prise off glass carefully.

Mike I'm disapointed with ya!! You haven't checked Dicky's (bored-welsh-lad's) links thread in the ole mk3 maintence section.. Theres a few links that will be handy for you at the mo there
