Hi
Anyone any comments on the following:
1. 195/50s or 205/50s on my mark3 golf gti (i'm about to change all four)?
2. replacing the existing 15inch wheels with 16in 5 stud Montreal II alloy wheels from a mark4 golf - they currently have 205/55 X 16 tyres - will they fit?
3. AVON ZV3 or Uniroyal Rallye 540s?
Thanks for any advice.

The 195/50s were standard on the mk3 until about '96 when the slightly wider 205s replaced them. dont think it makes much difference to the overall drive of the car, but personally i would go with the 205s.
Not sure about the Montreals...I am not sure if they will fit, but someone on here will know for sure.
I would go for the Toyo Proxes over Avon or Uniroyals but that is my personal opinion. Have a look at some previous posts regarding tyre choices.
hope this helps

the mk4 wheels will actually fit but the tyre size is all wrong and would need swapping for 205/45

should fit, provided you've not dropped the car too much.
but def not the right size: your speedo and odometer will be out, plus the car will be fractionally higher on standard suspension, so handling will be affected.
your call!
Let me know if it's okay, 'cos my 40 profile tyres on 17" allows are really bugging me (too harsh) and I'm interested in getting 45 profile rubber on the same alloys (probably on a 25mm suspension drop)... just worried about changing something like that and screwing up the balance of the car / having the arches rubbing...
n e way!
