Title: Damaged Monza :-( Repairable?
Post by: mb on 06 February 2009, 19:35
Hi Guys

Went shopping in Watford today and as I pulled into the car park and stopped to get my ticket I thought it looked a bit tight.  Anyway with ticket in hand and being very careful not to catch the rear wheel, I managed to catch the front wheel instead   It sounded terrible.  The damage is about a foot along the edge of the wheel.

Does it look repairable?  If so, where is the best place to try?  I've searched this forum and found a few companies mentioned, Spit and Polish, Pristine, etc.  Has anyone got a recommendation?

Thanks

Looks like a Monza II to me.

Anyway, repairable but the finish won't be perfect.

I've had a bigger chunk taken out of my alloy so it'd be interesting to see if mine is repairable or not.

well my local garage want £90 a rim for the monza 2s, saying thats its the diamond finish but as youve done the edge of the rim im guessing it will just be a normal refurb price anything from £40-65 depending on where you go.. halfords charge £50 but if you wana perfect finish then empty your pockets lol

Thanks for the links LaserBlue.

Found this post during my search so will give Spit & Polish a call next week to see what they say.

Laserblue, have you found somewhere local that will re-do the diamond cut finish?

CTS will do it for £80 a rim, he said it will be just like new and can pick your choice of insert colour.. he will need your car over night.

I'd personally go with Spit and Polish for a Monza 2 as they were offering Monza repairs when no-one else could do them in the UK.   I would have thought they would be good at them by now!

Prices look good! Shame they are so far away I would be tempted to get my Monza's re-diamond cut at that price.

Just collected my wheel from the company mentioned by jv (http://www.wheelrefurbishing.com) and I'm very impressed with the results   Went with them as they were the only one to reply to my emails.

It's not the wheel in my first post but a spare that I have that had also been kerbed.  It was easier to leave this wheel as it hasn't got a tyre fitted.  I was hoping they would be able to swap the tyre from the damaged wheel onto this one but they were too busy so I will go back in a week or so once I get the tyres swapped over.

Anyway, here's a couple of pics:

After:

Cost a total of £55  Just need to find somewhere that will be able to change the tyre over without damaging it now!

Did they just repair the one wheel?

I want my Pescara (Edition 30 wheel) sorting out. Every company I go to seems to want to do all 4 wheels even though only one is scratched.

Got a quote from the wheel specialist and they wanted £84.50 for the one wheel. Seems abit OTT for me that.

Cool, did you go there yourself? Such a mission to find their unit!!

Yes, I did go there myself.  Satnav didn't take me there as per their website but down loads of little roads instead.  Their unit is well hidden and you wouldn't know it was there!

Both my 18" rears are showing signs of the dreaded white worm

Pleased to have lasted 2 1/2 years with no problem. No kerbing or damage and they are going to the dealers next week for looky and warranty consideration. Nothing less than replacement will do for me

I hope
