Title: Small stones and brake discs
Post by: No Golf Clubs at all on 05 February 2009, 18:49
Chaps I have now had three seperate incidents where a small stone has bounced off the road and lodged itself in between the rear(inside) of the brake disc and the metal plate that surrounds it.  The roads are appauling just now  it's fixed easy enough I just poke a screwdriver on the edge of the guard and the stone drops out. Any one else had this???? The first time it happened I thought my milltek had dropped off and to investigate I removed the whole wheel!

Has it happened to you? Or is there something amiss with my guards (or whatever they are called!)  :embarassed:

Never happened to me, over three years of owning Golf Mk V GTi's,  but I have read about it quite a few times on the forums

Yep, just happened this week on our A3 Sportback. My Mum was driving along and all of a sudden the car developed a screeching sound that you would relate to a 70's car rather than a 2007 Audi!

Took it straight to the dealers and they inspected it and it was small stones behind the disc probably from the salt mix they are using on the road at the moment!

Thought we were the only ones but obviously more common than we thought!

Happened to me once, so it's not just GTI brakes

Happened to me within 2 weeks of buying the car. Like you, I thought the exhaust had fallen off and was being dragged under the car . Hubby listened as I drove slowly up the (busy) road and realised it was coming from a wheel, so whipped it off and removed a tiny stone. Couldn't believe the racket it was making.

Hasn't happened since, though.

Yep, happened 3 times on my R32. The last 2 times it happened twice in the same week  :undecided: , before that the other other time was over year ago. Annoying when it happens.

Yeah i know what you mean, it makes a real bad screetching noise..

it does put wear and tear on your brakes so my local garage said, maybe its a design fault?

never happend on my previous cars, i have a stone drive way so its a nightmare for me

thanks all for your replies,  at least I now know it's not just my car but a combination of crap roads and probably a weak design  :lipsrsealed:
