Title: Tinting a 3dr mk5 gti....
Post by: DanoGTI on 05 February 2009, 18:48
Hi All,

I've seen these kits on Ebay - I'm a dab-hand and like to try stuff myself (not quite up to illyun's S3 intercooler mod - one day maybe!!LOL!)
Are they "relatively easy to fit"? I'd be looking at installing the kids' DVD screens and I'd like to make it semi-permanent :)

Thoughts?

Dan :)

This has been discussed on the mk5 section and the consensus seems to be the OEM tinted windows are best since it's actually the glass that is tinted, rather than a film on the glass. You can buy them from a dealer and get them fitted, as far as I know. The main problem with the mk5 and tint film is that it can't fit into some of the curves well, most noticeably on the rear window where you will have white line at the bottom where the tint film won't fit.

I have never seen self tinting film that works or looks good to be honest.
