just intrested in what you think or do, when waiting at lights with dsg box do u leave it in d or put it into n?,
-
N, always, tho the missus leaves it in D, even tho I keep
shouting telling her to change to N. Did this in a manual car too.
N and handbrake on.
-
I think this has been discussed a few times before
Touched on a few times in this thread :

I vary it, depending on how long I think the traffic lights are going to stay on red
The booklet tells you to stay in 'D' for short stops I think

Me too.
But watch the Mrs does not sit in D with the handbrake on and footbrake off.

If seem people executed for less.

....
62,000 miles of leaving her in D with foot on brake and no handbrake. I only ever use the handbrake for parking.
If it's gonna be a while, I might pop her into N but keep my foot on the brake.
The GTI has a Hill Assist system which takes care of slopes automatically.
-
i've noticed that too in my DSG, but people on here have reported that their cars do not have it and roll back on hills. Weird. My one is an June 08 plate.
-
^^^^
Mine's an 06-Build, 05-plate and has Hill Assist - Very useful imo.

I tend to drop into N if I've just been caught at the lights. If I pull up at the lights and they are already at red, then I tend to stay in D. If I'm stuck in a traffic jam then I drop it into N and stay still as long as possible and then pop back into D and catch up with the traffic and then back into N again. It does p!ss off people behind you, but then I'm more concerned about my car than what they think of me

I suppose you have to do something to satisfy your conscience about looking after your car when you do all those quarter-milers at The Pod

....I'm happy to say that Hurdy and I know each other well enough for me to 'have a go'. It's not often one gets the opportunity!
