Title: Just bought a MK3
Post by: markc123 on 04 February 2009, 22:05
Hi everyone.....

Got offered a '92 8v MK3 GTI for £100 so bought it - in the name of cheap motoring. I was driving a 2.2 pug 406 which scrapes to 32mpg and is over £100 more to insure. Plus I wanted something a little bit smaller and more chuckable.

The Gti needed some brake pipes, a battery, rear caliper and a cat for MOT so I'm not too badly off on the deal. Its already had 4x new tyres, new front beam / wishbone and 82k on the clock .

List of things to do:
Missing plastic strips on the side skirts
Broken drivers door lock barrel
Broken Glove box handle
Dent in rear wing
Cam belt change (dunno when last done)
Oil and filters
Find out whats up with central locking
Move stereo kit from the pug
Drive

Cheers guys.

All being Well it'll have a MOT in a few hours. Paid a mate to get it through the MOT - February isn't the time to muck around doing brake pipes when you dont have a garage . I've got 2 weeks before I need to use it - waiting for the insurance ont he pug to run out, so a few small jobs this weekend and a quick trip to GFS to get the bits for the cam belt and service next weekend. The previous owner also has the original alloys he says I can have with the car - so will clean them up and either sell or keep them against the possibility of doing a coupel of track days...

MOT'd and at home now

Central locking now works, but the drivers door lock barrel has come out - apparently i need a new one as the little loop on the end has snapped.... Might sawp the passenger barrel in and put the money towards a cheap remote central locking or alarm (seen some on fleabay for £30 delivered that look OK).

Fitted my spare Head Unit last night as well, I dont seem to have found the perm live yet, thats a job for daylight and my multimeter.

Car seems to be running well, looking forward to getting it on the road on the 19th
