OK - no one else has answered this, so I will.

If you search on this forum, there are many threads discussing Bluefin, and the Superchips company which make them.  There are a whole raft of reasons why you should NOT use them, and probably just two reasons in their favour.

The two reasons in their favour are:

A list of the some of the many reasons why you shouldn't use Bluefin/Superchips:

Furthermore, over on Audi-Sport.net - there has been repeated posts of the Bluefin providing a big fat zero increase on the Audi S3.

So basically, if you money is really tight, and you honestly can't afford say a Revo or any of the other remap compaines - then I would personally avoid Bluefin/Superchips like you would a woman with scabby privates!

....

Matthew, I would advise having a chat with someone such as Keith at JKM (0239 263 9933) - They are VAG specialists and offer both Bluefin and Revo - They will give you an honest opinion comparing the two and won't pressure you into purchase.

As with even the well established tuners, there are stories on the internet about how bad someone thinks a particular remap is and just because there are apparently reports on Bluefin>S3 problems, it doesn't mean that the same problems apply to the GTI/Ed30. In fact there are many very satisfied Superchips/Bluefin GTI customers.

You'll find that power gain claims are very often optimistic by all the tuners! Rolling-Road results for example are particularly variable as there are so many factors.

Having decided which remap you want, aftersales service is an extremely important consideration.

Personally I chose Revo and am extremely happy with both their product and their exemplary support, but I would definitely be considering Superchips as well if choosing again, though probably a custom remap via VWRacing.

I'm very tempted to challenge T_T's allegation about Superchips "been proven to lie" but it won't achieve anything other than turn this thread into an argument.

I hope this helps.

18" monza do look good, but back on topic

an interesting read above. i'm always wary when i hear a handfull of negative on items.
i would say fair enough to have some issues due to tolerance levels, but to remap at home by plugging a generic map is just a little odd to me. i know many have been happy with the bluefin, but i prefer someone in the know how to look over the car, log the car to check it's healthy etc.

you never know, the maf, dv, or a leak somewhere may occur etc. so best make sure the car is in top tip condition before mapping i feel

....I agree, and that's why I went for Revo, but I don't believe everything our 'learned friend' has to say about Superchips etc.

Interesting reading, would like to comment on my experiences as owned both a mark V gti & the Ed30 version which I have now.

Both cars used the bluefin upgrade from superchips and I have not had any problems what so ever with either of them.

The power delivery on the ED30 is just mental, cant use when the wife is in car!! Probably too much power for anything but bone dry roads.

I think the basic Golf GTI has a more usable power band with the bluefin but if you want the power to keep coming I guess the ED30 would suit.

I and many others are more than happy with both the re-map itself and the customer service we have received from Superchips. I have recently had an upgrade to Stage2 and a rolling road session for nothing! To be honest I haven't even read T_T post as Iv'e read it all before  :lipsrsealed:

Don't believe everything you read on the Internet (including this post )! Buy a product, if your not happy with it return it, if you are shout about it! As I do and every other Superchips/Bluefin customer has
