Title: colour coded trim/bumpers
Post by: colourconcept on 04 February 2009, 19:30
is it better to paint all the trim on a mk3 gti or remove all side trim and arches? ive heard its hassle pulling of trim and arches coz the joinings got to be removed and filled,is this true

i would say paint them as it looks just as good and alot less hasle or take the arches of and paint the side stipes but you need to make sure thers no rust behind the arch

Be brave and remove them, looks much cleaner plus gets rid of all the rust / water traps.

Mk3's with colour coded arch's dont seem to go....removing the arches and having coded side strips is the norm for the smoother boy's, or if your like me.... keep it o.e

As for trim/bumpers... colour coded bumpers look the nuts on all cars, and trim on colour cars, black you may aswell keep standard though...

I don't mind the trim on the GTI, but if I end up getting a GTI I'll be bringing it to colour coded bumpers like what I've got now, unless of course I get a VR6 ;)

What's the point in removing something that's there? I'm not trying to hide anything ;)

Well yes but having gone to so much trouble with making the colour darker, would have been better to have removed them.

Go for clean look but id personally keep the trim! buff the trim with back to black it makes car look soooo clean when spent a couple of hours of detailing!

Don't tell him to do that!

We had 10 odd pages of "Shall I keep it on" and "I'm going to take it off, should I" in his project thread!!
Looks OEMish! good look! Looks amazing in the flesh!

LOL! Sorry jamrock, 8v8v is right. 10 pages of should I or shouldn't I, in the end I sold the debadged grill, I prefer the badge. Although I need to get the grill repainted as there are many horrid chips in it :(

8v8v, cheers again for the kind comments :)
