I was wondering how many of you guys have raced a mini cooper s in your 16v's. Everybody I speak to thinks the cooper s will leave the golf for dead but I disagree with them. What does everyone else think?
-
both in standerd form i think that would be a pretty close race,
0-60 in a mini cooper s is about 7.9<---------this time in diffrent magazine varies wildly :-\
but it would be a fun in line race! :D
-
My brother has a Cooper 'S' and believe me, it would win 8)
-
went out in pitstop's cooper s, running 190 odd bhp. my god, no comparison. you wouldn't have a chance marcus! :)

of course i wouldnt with that ;)
its running 190bhp! :D
evo quote the cooper s at 7.7 0-60,thats tested on there track as well.
mk2 valvers arnt that far behind ;)
-
the new minis are sh!t anyway :P too overpriced :P :P
-
a good 16v would give a standard cooperS a run for its money.
as with most "races", its not about performace, but about driver skill and the size of their dangly bits. the driver who takes more risk, tends to win.
-
Well I wouldn't say this chav had large dangley bits, just a death wish !
He was in a 16v clio and after struggling to keep up on some country lanes, appeared behind me again in town and was still after more .... ;D
The twit only over took me on the wrong side of a fecking hump back bridge - what a knob !

that is nothing.
go for a drive in northern thailand. the behaviour you mention is standard overtaking practise.
i can be aggressive when driving but even I surrendered. i think i gave up at the point i realised trucks do the same thing. not 4x4s i mean big big artics. they are all nuts out there.

mental mini! I got a spin in that as well. the charger sounds wicked, got a really loud whine to it.
-
Now that is bad driving. I only play when I feel its safe. If someone gets out of hand, I do the grown up thing and back off. Age gives you the experience to read situations.
besides crashing hurts BIG time, not to mention the cost/hassle etc
besides i laugh at chav tossers

I personally think that there wouldn't be much in it between these cars as it all depends on whose driving it. My friend used to rally cars and he has owned both a mk1 gti and a mk2 8v gti, and he told me that he raced a BMW M3 in his Mk1 on a twisty road and it couldn't get near him apart from on the straight bits.

Thats different. On a straight it would lay him out flat and as you say bend roads, great fun.
I remember in my ***COUGH*** XR2 I was trying to play with a VOLVO T5 and could'nt, until I came of my junction and sat on his ass waiting for him to move so I could pass on the steep bend on a turn off on the M2 (can'remeber which junction) he was nearly losing it but that XR poo was on rails.
Just for everyones info, my Golf would cane the ass of the poo, but hell it was a fun car.
Martz, t5s are heavyweight cars :D
dont f**k with them unless you got something meen >:(
my coupe would struggle with em :(
-
dear me martz ::)
racing a T5 in an xrpoo
shame on you! :D
-
yeh me too,
bin lookin for cooper s's but no luck, all the owners were too noncey to race :D
so i beat up a saxo insted! :D
yeh!!!!! :D :D :D :D :D

I own a 2.0 16v nova :P (you love me really) and raced a mini cooper S, standing start at the lights. I got in total of about a car length on him until he had to turn off, saying that had a bend come i would have slowed down a hell of a lot. My 2.0 16v gti is slower then my nova, so i reckon, yep a cooper s would most definitely eat a 16v. Cooper S' also handle very well so the golf even though the handling is great would not put much of a fight up.
Solo

lets have a cheeky engine shot of your 2.0 16v engine as well dude?
goin down the scrappy tomorrow to have a look at one of those engines ;)

Marcus, a c20xe? Redtop engine? It will help a lot if you could get it started. Hear it running and listen for the tappet sound, should go quite after a few seconds, if not its not a major problem but they are prone to get noisy the more worn they are. Oil sump leaks are very common, but not hard to sort out.
lmao I will take a few pics of the car with my camera phone, digital camera is well and trully knackered.
Nova is not for anything but driving hard and for me its done the job.
At the moment the poor Nova's on axle stands awaiting a new gearbox hopefully today, shattered 4th and 5th >:(
Gearbox partially stripped. Lost cause so going to change the whole lot.
