Hey,
I'm thinking off adding a subwoofer to the standard system in my mk4 Golf. Possibly built in panel on the side. However saying I have about £150 to spend on an amplifier and subwoofer (10inch) what would you recommend, not after crushing bass just a subtleish addition to the normal speaker. The sub probably won't need a box.
Thanks
Tim

if you want a ten and do not want to take too much space i would reccomend
the shallow fit pioneer 10" sub in a custom fibreglass box
this is the spec for the 12" version

as you can see it is only 8.2 cm deep so you could have a very shallow box made(i can make one for you delivered for £130 trimmed in black carpet)
as for an amp this would be quite sufficient for the 10"

You obviously didn't take note of my £150 budget for both! Thanks anyway though.
I'm probably going to make a fibreglass box for my boot to fit snugly like the auto acoustics ones.

From the Awesome site:
Focal 25A1 £69
Hertz DS300 £80
Vibe slick 10 £50.99
Which is going to be best bang for buck out of those?
Not sure what rated amp I need to match it, probably only ever going to have a sub no other speaker so a Mono one would be fine wouldn't it?

out of the 3 i would choose the hertz sub
sorry only noticed the budget after i had posted
amp wise here are a couple of reccomendations

ebay for second hand older amps. same quality, but cheaper. alpine are good for amps, if your just running a sub, grab a monoblock, trying to match the rms with the sub.
as for subs, type r alpine, vibe blackair (i got 2 of them, awesome!).
you can get 10" subs for hardly anything off ebay. i got one for 99p!!! also got 2 alpine type E 12" subs for like £20 in custom boxes. so there are plenty of bargains on ebay. you can set yourself a good sub setup for £50. will be fine for your use, as you said just a little bit of bass to add to the sound. not sure how much you like your music (D&B???) but if you love it, you will probs get more bass LOL!!
stick to 10" for best sound quality.

Yeah deffo not going for more than 10 inch. Don't like alot of DnB (in fact most - but i do like some) I tend to listen to more rock. With lots of other stuff chucked in...
