I have a problem.. When my MK3 TDI engine is reved to the limiter it drops a cylinder and runs on 3 cylinders... I dont want to say anything to the MOT tester because they will refuse to test it for emissions, and i cant afford to have all the fuel pump stripped at the moment.. And it *might* not do it. Now if they hold it on the limiter and they dont notice its dropped a piston and it causes damage... or it does drop and wont fix its self (usualy does after being swtiched off for an hour or so) Who would be liable for the repair? Obviously they wont know i know it happens ...?

diesel enignes limuters are beacuse of the fuels flame speed not the ablity of the internals to stand the rpm. there is proably a disclamer somewhere saying if it goes bang it's your problem there was an issue with diesel mots meany years ago when the enigne kept running off and blowing up, they will have coverd there arses and anyway you have just admited a pre existing problem in public
-
There is a govoner to keep the engine at 5000 rpm but due to the fault the engine drops a cylinder, which is fine because the problem fixes after giving the engine a rest and re starting it.. but if they keep the engine revving at 5000 rpm on 3cyl not realising it will cause damage surly.. Plus i doubt they will be trawling through the internet if they do happen to blow my engine
i think its due to a small air lock in the injector pipes, it also leaks a tinnnnnny weeeeeeny bit from number 2 injector, but they wont know that.. its coverd so wouldnt fail. I suppose thats whats causing it because the car runs absolutly perfect untill it actually hits that govoner

they ask you about the cam belt etc before the test.
a friend said he had changed his, they revved the nutz off it as they have to, Snap
they recovered his car home for him and that was that.
I wouldnt risk it .

when it runs on three does it not smoke like hell?
can you not just wind in the throttle cable stop so it cant get to that amount of revs - thats how we get smokey dervs through
-
well if it dosent smoke like hell you know it's injector or pump, not that hard to fix
-
It will smoke when it does drop the cylinder, not all that badly but it does pump out some clag, i would try to wind the cable back but im 90% sure there is no adjuster because its electronic control. i think there might be a cable but it sure doesnt go into the fuel pump. just from the pedle to the control unit, i will have to inspect that.
So.. how do i fix my pump? there is a slight leak from between the injector and the block, Only a very slight bubble of fuel, im worried to take it out just incase it never goes back properly... or the head is cracked or something, i get the feeling mabey that has something to do with it.

whitch oil burner is it for starters ?
-
They will not cover or help as they will ask beforehand is your car fit to test.
-
They will no doubt have a disclaimer, which means they can test it as they see fit (even if that blows the engine)... my mate did a rollling road session and it blew his engine and the garage didnt have to do a thing
-
as said its your problem if the engine blows no the mot guys as the car should be fit for test
