Title: No idle for first minute, then doesn't run as well as before. The answer must be
Post by: settio on 28 January 2009, 21:29

My 8V ADY GTI suddenly developed a fault, it won't tickover until a bit warm, around a minutes running usually does it. It has flat spots around 3000rpm and now seems quite thirsty, it has lost accelleration.  If it cuts out during the warm up period there is a slow clicking noise coming from the throttle body.  I have replaced the plugs, leads, cap, rotor and temp sender,  renewed or checked all air hoses, and cleaned the throttle body. Any clues would be greatly appreciated.

try resetting the throttle body (there's a guide in bored-welsh-lads thread within the maintence section)

the other day i got in my car, turned it on, but it wouldnt idle, it would rev automatically to 2k then just drop. It would only go if i pressed accelerator a tad. Managed to get it going and i noticed petrol gauge was nearly empty, it was half way through the reserve, it was running rough and i limped into petrol station, but £15 of brand new juice and been fine since. check that you got enough petrol, and even consider a fuel filter change.
