I have just ordered a nice new Alpine head unit to replace the Original Sony tape unit in my MK3. I recently replaced the original and tired CD changer with a new sony 10 disc one. After discussing the new head unit with a friend he clenched his teeth and sucked in a lot of air "you're cd changer isn't going to be compitable with the head unit" he said.
Is he right? the new HU has a cd slot but i quite like having a changer. Am i going to have to fork out more for an alpine changer or will the sony one still work?
-
you can't use a sony changer with a alpine headunit. end of ;D
There aren't any adaptors either. if you still want a changer then you'll have to buy an alpine one soz :)
personally after ditching my sony MD/changer setup for a kenwood mp3 headunit I haven't missed it one bit. 10 albums on 1 cd keeps me amused ;)
-
That's a crying shame! :'(
Never mind, your point about MP3 has cheered me up! Now then, were's that cd burner programme thingy.........
-
exposing myself as a bit of a computer retard here, but what is the best way to create MP3 cds?
I have Roxio Cd creator and have managed to convert tracks into WMA files which are it seems similar to MP3s and will work on my head unit, but i don't seem to be able to burn them to a cd. I don't think i have a full version of this programme.
What is the best programme to use for creating MP3 or WMA cds?

i use nero and have no problems. ;)
back to the cd changers, are there any other cd changers that will work with alpine? alpine ones are quite dear :'(
-
Nero..... I belive my old pc had that on. I will have to try and fire it up and see if i can work it out.

I bought the head unit from these people it was cheaper than any where i could find. A full ?100 cheaper than the Halfords branch where i went to push all the buttons and see it in the flesh.
I suppose i could sell the sony one and get about quarter of the money for a new alpine changer ::)

I use Nero or the built in XP one works ok. Haven't had any trouble with either. For converting your original CDs to MP3 I use iTunes as it's about the only thing that works with my PC.

Recieved the Head unit yesterday. Fitting was quite easy despite my complete lack of skill. I struggled to fit the jungle of wires back into the slot, i ended up removing the glove box below the passenger airbag and pulling it all through from behind. Now i just have to wait for the skin on my knuckles to grow back ::)
I managed to create an MP3 disc in the end, using windows media player and Nero, easy when you know how!!
And despite Dizzie's emphatic answer re sony cd changers, i tried it anyway and he is right. Of course!
The head unit is an Alpine CDA-9831 and i'm dead pleased with it and would recommend it fully.

what car did you install it in?
-
'96 MK3 VR6
-
?189 is the cheapest Alpine Cd changer I have seen. www.incardiscount.co.uk if you are still after one
-

Although i suddenly realised that my insurance runs out at the end of the month so all other spending has ceased! Hurry up pay day!
