Only real issue I have is that the car is a European import which he purchased from a car supermarket - he is the third owner and has owned it from 8k miles.
I think the price is pretty good, but the import slant makes me a little wary - any thoughts on this one? seem good or steer well clear?

Seems abit high, and by the looks of it a low spec version (seats Standard cloth). im sure for an extra grand or so, will get you a better spec and uk version with less miles.

Cheers guys - interesting initial feedback... after looking on Autotrader and Pistonheads I thought the price was inline with the market (for a UK car anyway) - as for spec, yeah good point - mind you I am happy to lose the leather (ideal would be half and half - a la Edition 30) and it's got DSG, MFSW and CD changer which lifts it a little bit.... hmmm...
To be fair i had expected R32 prices to really tumble with teh whole credit crunch and fear of high tax and petrol costs - plus teh influx of those bargain basement R32's a few months back... but they seem to holding their asking price..

Warranty to 2010???? Don't think so, if a 2006 most for import would be 31/12/08! £13k seems ok for a dsg 2006local stealer to me has been trying to punt similar (with leather) for £16995!!! But he us a total and utter robbing thieving stealing sticky fingered fagineseque nick cotton type of ne'er do well :-)

He purchased a 2 year warranty from the car supermarket he bought it from... so it is non VW. As for the dealers, tell me about it... bl00dy credit crunch my behind :smiley:

Steer clear mate. That is over prices and selling imports is always harder than UK cars. Plus it may cost more to insure.

Everything has it's price ... you can always make him a lowish offer and let him think about it
You could then check out the car history etc.
I have bought quite a few imports and would'nt worry too much about this as long as the car is in good overall condition, full VW service history and to UK spec (check it has a spare wheel and not puncture repair kit :smiley:). In a years time the import tag won't really matter as even a 2006 UK car would be out of warranty then. There is no problem insuring European imports which are to full UK spec.
My only niggling doubts would be how good the 3rd party warranty is, in particular with repect to the DSG, which are'nt cheap to repair / replace.

I have only bought imported vehicles since 1998. Each time (5 cars, a motorhome and a motorbike) the spec was higher than the poverty spec palmed off on to UK motorists. Cruise control as an extra? It is in the UK sir.
