Title: condensation !
Post by: wampablo on 26 January 2009, 18:29
last week i changed my heater matrix because of the pond forming in my footwells. anyway i noticed that the carpets where still not getting any dryer so i set about looking for that leak turned out to be coming in from the heater blower so sorted that out after a soaking with the hose and a good look inside the car with no carpets theres no water. but now my windows keep getting misty on the inside have any of you had this and how long did it take to clear up for good ?

Could take forever. Best thing to do is remove the seats and carpets and remove the sodden sound deadening and replace it. Dry the rest out in a garage over a night or two.

It will be very difficult to completely dry out the carpet because of the sound deadening material. Ideally, you will need to remove your seats and carpet and sound proofing, which will probably be a sodden stinking mess. You can either dry it out in your garage or renew it. The carpet, once it is out, will dry fairly quickly.
When the carpet is out, you can then check the floor and the bulkhead for integrity of the sealing.

Bugger you Ben. You hit the post button before I did!

That photo is nothing! I wish I had the one from when the car was stood - it was literally 3" deep in every footwell - stupid Glasgow rain!

rain tray over scutel pannel is top favoret for that,      drying interior out takes quite some effort,  pair of fan heaters and a heavy duty de humidifyer ( with drain pipe poked out through door   and leave that lot in there on full balst for 2 days

Just make sure its not coming in from somewhere else. Mine's leaking in the footwell, but it's not from the blower. It's wet on top of the dash metalwork (Dash out). I've checked the sunroof drains and it's not from there.

BUt at least I got heat again!!

Check your windscreen seal, this is also a popular spot for leaks.

I pulled all the carpets out of mine, drove it around for a month or 2. Sourced the leaks that way. My rear drain for the sunroof had rusted through, and it was running down the C pillar. Of course you can always get a friend with a hose pipe to help you track them down!

i bought 2 large bags of silica balls  :smug:

put them up behind the dash

no more condensation , no good if you have puddles but it helps if you suffer a little like i was
