does any one know where i could find a golf mk2 2 liter steel crank? cheers
-
are you after 92.8 mm cranck that'll fit the mk2 engine or a spectalised aftermarket on for a revmonster
aftermarket ones are a bit scarece as the std item is pritty damb tough. aftermarket pullys can kill them due to resonance they snap at one of the main bearings but other than that they good for 8 k and dosent take much to get them good for more, power wise 500 pony. dont want to try an go further with a vw 4 pot else it'll cost £££££ or be very un reliable

not sure what size it would be! im guessing it would have to be aftermarket! im building a 2.2liter 8v and i want it to be a real mean rev monster im using forged pistons and rods going all the way with every thing and i was told a steel crank would be better if i could find one :P

from what I've read the bottom end of the 1.8 16v up to the pistons is forged. Has the thoought of a longer rod. I'm curious to see also if the crank & connecting rods can be shot peaned. I'm thinking maybe bore out a 1.8 and keep the stroke and maybe go with the bigger pistons forged of coarse. Doing this may give you the results you want. But, there is always abetter way. Put some work into the head, that'll help with the flow and revs, look for a bigger valved 8v head or get your valves changed. It could be pricy but worth the gains. Are you gont to have a motorway blaster or a pull out of the turn? Or torque miester. Keep us posted I'm curious i've been thinking of either building a healthy 1.8 G60 type enging ( I've always wanted a supercharged engine. or go with a 2.o 16valver with a couple of mild camshafts. Or combine the 2. A blown 2.0 16 valver, hhmmm sounds just lovely.
