Title: 1.8 20 valve, turbo conversion help
Post by: chrisGTI on 26 January 2009, 16:01
Hi all I have a mk2 golf with a 1.8 20 valve engine in from an audi ADT or APT engine code ill find out for sure later, whats the complications in bolting a turbo to the back of it and fabbing boost pipes to suit? where would I pick up the oil cooling from and would the turbo manifold from a 1.8t vag engine fit?

many thanks

Not familiar with that engine code, but they're all based around the same block. Should be a pickup for the oil feed on the back of the block, it'll need drilling out. Exhaust manifold, turbo and feed lines you can rob from any 1.8T. Downpipe and boost pipes will need to be custom made. Compression wise your pistons will be useless, but again you can pinch the rods and pistons from another 1.8T.. you'll need an inlet manifold, fuel rail and injectors to suit, then management. The loom will need to be adapted to either a 1.8T ecu with the qpeng kit or something standalone like omex or dta.

tbh it's easier to start with the right engine..
