Got a problem with my 1.8T.....only had it a week and driven it twice :embarassed:
I turned the engine on and got three beeps followed by 'STOP! CHECK COOLANT SERVICE MANUAL' message on the dash.
The message goes straight away and doesn't re-appear whilst driving, only on start up.
The car seems fine, doesn't seem to be over heating. I took the car for a steady drive of about 10-15 miles keeping a steady eye on the temp gauge and it never went above 90 degrees.
Brought the car back home, turned the engine off and let it cool down a bit. Turned it on again on the drive and it's not showing the message anymore !?!
I've checked the coolant level and it seems to be sitting in-between MIN & MAX in the expansion globe/bottle so that looks ok to me.
What temp does the Rad fan normally kick in ? Cant say I heard the fan working whilst driving but to be honest I wasn't listening out for it.
I wanted to check the fuses incase the Rad fan isn't working but cant seem to work out which one it should be....I thought F16 but that doesn't appear to be a working fuse socket on my car (ie: no internals)
Any ideas ?

the fan wont come in at these temps unless your driving very hard gauge should sit at 90
i expect you need a new coolant expansion bottle quiet common failure as the level sender is in the bottle. about a tenner i think for a new one

Dai is correct - the sensor does fail and a new bottle is £9.32 part no 1JO 121 403 B :nerd:

Thanks chaps
Will try and order one online now.
Assume it's ok to drive the car in the meantime yeah ?

cheaper from the dealer unless you pick it up for a fiver lol
shoud be fine seeing as you got the correct amount of fluid - its only the sensor thats playing up; if you had lost coolant then i'd look for leaks etc

This happened to me but when getting the coolant to max level it never happened again..

This happened to me the day I got mine!
It was a new water pump required, £300 job
Parts are cheap but labour is a p*ss take because of its location
