Title: R32 Bumper on GTI
Post by: MADMAXGTI on 24 January 2009, 21:25
Just wondering how to put an r32 rear bumper on to replace the gti one?
Wheres the best place to buy the bumper as the bgate vw dealer says £200 for the top and bottom half if thats any good?
How much does it cost to have it re-painted as my golf is red and they only come in black/sivler :undecided:!
I'm also trying to find a good deal on a non resonated gti r32 style miltek exhaust...where can i get the best price(awesome gti so far)?

Sorry for all the q's  !

Cheers

Max

Someone called my name?

You need these parts : -

- 1K6 807 433 C GRU - R32 Primed Rear Spoiler (correct name) - Approx £140 ex vat.

- R32 Reflectors to snap into the above part - Approx £3 each.

- 1K6 807 568 9B9 - R32 Exhaust Trim Satin Black - approx £74 ex vat.

So your VW dealer's price is about right.

The R32 Rear Spoiler (as it's strangely called) has cut-outs to accommodate all Mk5 exhaust configurations.
Mine is carbonfibre : -

^ And I'm now currently testing Milltek Satin Black tips.

don't suppose anyone knows where I could get a black plastic insert to accomodate my milltek quads that (although look cool) don't cost the earth?

....I think you'd have to change the whole Abt into 2 parts. Cut and black vinyl wrap? (and rejoin from behind).

I'm about to sell mine.

Thanks redrobin! When you bought the top half of the bumper, how much was it to be re-sprayed tornado red? Awesome car by the way !

P.s I've tried searching and no luck!

....

How much did it cost? - It's no good asking me questions like that - I don't always pay 'retail' prices and tend to forget anyway. Ask your local bodyshop.

I think you should budget £120-£200 for prep and paint. I had my lower rear abt balance resprayed like RR, can't remember the exact price but it's worth trawling around for recommended paint shops in your area, cheapest isn't necessarily best.  Maybe post in one of the other forums for a recommendation.

Thats about right although you may want to factor in a bit more if you are picky.  Blending will usually be needed if you have a keen eye and dont like the colour match issues you will usually find.

I've been thinking of doing something along these lines and would want to keep the same position for the tail pipes for the GTI.

Had a search round without luck, anyone know of a good simple carbon fibre exhaust trim in lieu of the standard one. I've seen the DTM GT1 Carbon one but am not that keen, think it looks a bit fussy.
