Title: Advantages of remapping a 1.4?
Post by: Josho on 24 January 2009, 19:13
'92 MK3 1.4
I'm not in it for mass power, I'm not that stupid!

Was thinking more of a smoother delivery.

What can you do for it Nick?

I will let you down nicely...but the 1.4 uses a rubbish spi fuel injection system that basically stops the car getting more power. best option is to fit a 1.6spi unit as there a direct replacment for your current motor or multi point injection it!! Both could be done for a few hundred £

Few hundred? Nah I'll leave it. I thought I might be able to get a deal on the remap for smooth power. It's a 1.4 I'm not looking to increase power. I'll just get some go fast stripes they and a million horsepower right? Oh and the cheap crappy Halfrauds air inf**ktion, that's gotta add 50 atleast!

well a chip will be at least £150 and wont give anywhere near the same bhp as a bigger engine!! I have some super power fuel additive if you want...extra 20% power gauranteed! (Gaurantee is valid for as long as the bottle is unopened and your gulable enough to buy it in the first place )

Seen some down Halfrauds, NITROUS fuel additive, that's good for 100 HP right? What about M3 mirrors, what power gains can I expect with those?

Hello,

I have never done one of these engines, I dont even knoe what management it uses, I will look into it for you but I dont think I can help you out.  If it can be tuned I dont think you will get any more power out of the engine, just a bit sharper and better running like a crypton tune would.

Yeah, that's what I was expecting. Not looking for speed, just sharpness and smoother delivery. I noticed a much sharper acceleration on my brothers car after a remap so thought I would ask.

i dought they'll find any big gains.

it's an 8v  1400cc and make 60 bhp iirc.   the SPI unit itself isnt exactly very big and thats the problem.   the engine itself can give about 80 - 85 bhp with stock cyl head. but to get that the spi unit and manifold need fileing in the bin.

I had a look at a birds 1.4spi from down the road, nothing can be done software wise to give any gains,  IMO a good service, good plugs, quality oil, performance filter (not cone) de-cat or sports car and good fuel will give you the best results ans should get rid of the flat spot.
