wanna put new discs and pads in me mk2 1.6, but want gti discs and pads do i need to put gti calipers on too??
have used gti discs and pads on there at moment which fit in driver calipers??
any ideas??

Use 8v gti parts, should fit OK as long as the width of the calliper with the piston right in fits over the disc and pads.

gtis generally have 20mm vented discs on the front. My old driver 1.6 (assuming it's the same as yours) had 11mm solid discs, so you'd probably need a different caliper too. If you can find a good one at the scrappy there are plenty around. I also paid about ?45 for a recon one 6 months or so ago at a shop. I'm thinking they should bolt straight onto the carrier... I also think the master cylinder is the same size for both cars so you'll be ok there.

You need GTI pads and disks to match, as the disks and pads are different thicknesses so swapping one or the other wont work right, but both together will.

so, if i go and buy new discs and pads for a gti will i need to change the caliper??

No, with the thinner gti pads and thicker gti discs they should go in your standard callipers.
Before you push the pistons back in the calliper, gently lift the rubbers and check and clean of any rust, wipe a small amount of break fluid under the rubber and push the pistons back, beware of excess fluid tipping out of master cylinder though.
Wrecks paint, and is a real bugger to get rid of if it does.
