I know this is a little obscure but.........
How many MPH do you get per 1000rpm in top gear?
Mines does exactly 20mph/1k rpm
Which means its geared to do 130mph!!! (6500rpm red red line)
-
I get about the same. At 80mph I think I'm at about 4000rpm. The revvo ends at over 7000. 140mph?
-
100mph is about 4,200rpm so with the redline at 6,500 can i go 154mph? I doubt it!
-
You'll find it fairly hard to redline most cars in 5th (or 6th) gear, so the theoretical top speed are a nice dream. However, on my cab, the smaller wheels help quite a bit and I had mine pushing 6000rpm in 5th gear, giving me a speed of 108 mph on the GPS, and an indicated 120+ on the speedo.
-
I've hit 6000rpm before in top..... a little scary in the cab!!!
I had a car once (to embarassed to say what) that was theorectically geared to 160mph and it was a 1.3!!!
Alot of cars have an Economy style top gear, the Chevy Corvette i read once had a top gear geared to 306mph!!! Just a way to get around emissions etc...

I like the top gear in my car cos when you're going 75-85mph, you can put your foot down in 5th and still get good acceleration (and plenty of revs to spare!)

I know speedos are not totally accurate but is this a normal sort of error or does your wheel size affect the accuracy more?
Altough i suppose this is only about 10% error.

i had mine sitting at 5.5k and it was indicating 125mph on the speedo

I have little Euro wheels and low profile tyres fitted, this makes the rolling radius much smaller, and hence a 13% error on the speedo! also means I am clocking up more miles than I am actually doing, but on a plus side it has improved the performance.

so how does this work then?
after reading this post i checked it out...
on the way home i put it in 5th, and at 1000 revs i was doing about 23. my car redlines at 7000
23 *7 is 161.. ? (20*7 is 140)
fastest my car will go is 137..

20.86 mph/1k rpm I think is the figure with factory fit standard wheels, which would have been 14" for the 8v.
The 16v figures might be slightly different if the final drive ration is different to the 8v.
