Title: **UK Pressed Plates Group Buy**
Post by: Shady Pioneer on 21 January 2009, 11:17
Hey all, I contacted Dubmeister today and the guy said he would do a group buy for these plates.

I need at least 15 people to do this and you'll get the plates for £20 instead of £30, also if you want the surround like what I've got, they will be £16 for the pair instead of £20. Now because these plates are legal, they do require that you send them your V5 (as you'd need to to get any new plate done legally) so he said postage would be £6.90 for 1st class recorded delivery. Which is what you'd have to pay anyway if you spent the £30.

In regards to getting them, once the group buy is full, I'll be sending off the list to him of people and their email address's, then you would order directly from the store online or ringing up, and stating you are part of the group buy with GolfGTI.co.uk, then you'll get the discounted rate.

If you're interested then put your name down here, tell me if you want just the plates or the surrounds as well.

Regards

Kirk

UPDATED INSTRUCTIONS!!!

Here's what you've all been waiting for lol!

"Hi Kirk,

Yes the price is still the same £20.00 plus £6.90 to have your plates and documents sent back to you via courier.

I didnt recieve the list of names, if you could send that agin please.

There are a few ways you guys can order:
*Online
*Over the phone
*Via e-mail
Whatever way you order if you just include in the notes that you are part of the GTI order you will recieve the discount, as long as they are on the list you give.

If you get every one to send their docs within a few days of each other it will make things easier. The plates are sent within 48 hours of the docs being recieved. If you are sending so that they will arrive this Sat please be aware there will be a slight delay due to the show.

Any further questions please contact me.

Many thanks"

I would suggest you all in ring tbh, it's easier and quicker, and if you can all do it by the latest of Wednesday and get your docs sent out no later than Thursday. That was they will get them no later than Friday and you'll all have your plates by Tuesday I imagine.

Good turnout already :) spread it to other users on here as well guys :)

For the V5 yes it has to be the original, however I think they need to see you license as well, but a photocopy of that would be sufficient I imagine, I'll check for you guys :)

There's no dealers that do pressed plates though? Also the whole sending V5 thing, I know what you mean but then that's why it's recorded delivery and what not. I don't think that's anything to worry about lol!

Oh yeah, no I thought you meant dealer as in VW dealer lol! I got mine from TSR Performance in Bridgewater, however the group buy can't be done that way because the actual places don't gain any money from selling them.

Ultimately it's upto people if they want to save a bit of money or not I guess lol! However I will ring to check if a copy of the V5 is ok :)

must admit, not overly keen on posting V5 :undecided:

but I don't live anywhere near a dealer, and I love the look of the pressed plates!
also, with this group buy I get the plates and surrounds for £36 instead of £50 - kudos to shady pioneer for arranging this

I'm in either way, though hopefully a photocopy will suffice :) If posting the original, I'm sure dubmeister are trustworthy and I'll be sure to post it recorded / insured

Title: Re: **UK Pressed Plates Group Buy**
Post by: Shady Pioneer on 23 January 2009, 10:23
Just gave him a ring, copies won't do because people can forge them, change things in Photoshop etc. He said that's 100s of people have done it sending their docs via special delivery which is obviously insured and they send them back out the same way. If you don't send the docs required thy won't do it, which makes sense because you'd have to supply ID and V5 or similar to get them done at a dealer. :)

These are the requirements that are on their site:

Proof of entitlement codes
V5 - 11 digits in section D
V11 - Vehicle licence renewal
V379 - Vehicle registration
V750 - Certificate of entitlement
V778 - Cherished transfer
Official Hire/Lease document
Record of insurance claim

Proof of Identity
Driving Licence
Passport
Photo travel pass or ID card
Foreign ID photo ID card

However he did also say a utility bill like water, gas, electric, phone etc is ok too because they have reference numbers on there.

I know some people are gonna drop out now because of the ID side of things, admittedly I forgot to mention these but nonetheless it's all safe and secure. :)

I read that as they need one of those items in each category, i.e. your V5 and Drivers License.

This is going to sound random - but do you think I could get on the groupbuy but go get them done at Carnessour in Cambridge for the group buy price? They're a registered Dubmeister maker..

Come to think of it this sounds a silly idea

shady you smooth talker, I am back in the game.

I don't really want to send any docs through the post but I really really don't like the nasty plates the dealer put on my car either!  :nerd:

Smooth Talker haha!

I understand why some of you are a bit ehhh about sending docs off, but it's all insured, all looked after etc. However you can't get them done at a Dubmeister branch as he said they make no money from selling them at full price, only through the phone or net do they make a profit hence discounted price.

BTW please don't moan at me for this, I'm not making up the rules lol!

Shady - how about seeing if Dubmeister will open next Saturday - looking at a map they are only 10 minutes away from Gordano

if those interested are attending the meet we could pop along to them with our documents in person   you won't get the plates there and then but at least you will have provided your documents

just an idea

Title: Re: **UK Pressed Plates Group Buy**
Post by: Shady Pioneer on 24 January 2009, 21:18
I've compiled a list of people I think have confirmed to this group buy, if wrong please correct me :)

1. shepgti
2. mushy (w/ surrounds)
3. xAx (w/ surrounds)
4. Rhyso
5. mattyass
6. DakoYam (w/surrounds)
7. 8v8v
8. boxer1968 (w/ surrounds)
9. the dude
10. JamieGTi (w/ surrounds)
11. phatsam2003
12. w0ffle
13. Steve_PD

14 people, ideally I'd like to send off with 20 people on the list, the thing with the surrounds is I'm not sure if it's needs to be a minimum 15 people. If I can get 20 people for the plates, I'd imagine he'd let me allow the few who want surrounds have them at the discounted rate if I hold up more on the plates...if that makes sense? LOL!

Rhyso - That won't work I'm afraid as the stores that sell some of Dubmeister's stuff don't make money from what they sell, so can't make and discounts. :(

The main branch is gonna be TSR Performance in Bridgewater I think, Dubmeister are in process of moving, but I don't think that'll fly bud, you don't have to send a V5, you can send another doc instead along with a form of ID.

I'll take a pair of plates...

So will a mobile phone contract bill work as ID? Feel a little happier sending that rather than my driving license.

You keeping us informed about details such as when and who we need to pay and where to send details etc?

Cheers for organising this...is a great deal!
Title: Re: **UK Pressed Plates Group Buy**
Post by: Shady Pioneer on 25 January 2009, 22:53
I'd imagine a mobile phone bill should be ok, as there should be a reference number on there which is used to basically confirm someone's identity. I'll double check when this group buy is full for ya, and I'll tell you all what you need to do when it's full.

As far as I'm aware I'll be sending off this list to the guy at Dubmeister, along with your email address's so he can confirm who's paying and check them off the list as you buy them from the site, resulting in a discounted rate, I think he said something about adding to the 'notes' section on the site who you are (GolfGTI.co.uk forum member) but as I said, I'll confirm this at the end :)

No problem with organizing this either, I was well chuffed with the plates, and only want the rest of fellow dubbers to enjoy them too, especially seeing as you'll get caught out sooner or later with German ones, or using your plain acrylic ones as standard lol!

Please confirm for me if this is correct or not. BTW, I'm going to be honest with you guys and tell you that the surrounds are wank, I've only got the front one atm and you can't get the plates out once they are on, which you're meant to be able to do. Also the left hand side clip snapped as well, very delicate so I've opted to not have the rear one they were going to send me and found these on eBay, slightly different design but I think it's pretty good too be honest:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150324551097&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOIBSA:UK:11#ht_1974wt_909

Just putting it out there for you guys, as the ones from Dubmeister are pretty crap, these look like the fronts clip off without any problems, I have ordered some myself so if you wanna wait until I get them in the next day or two before you buy then by all means please do :)

Dako - Well fair enough :) I should be having them today, waiting for the postman :P

Alex - You have to wait until I confirm with Dubmeister the exact process but it'll be bought through their site, and you'll give them a couple of additional details (email address, the fact you're from this forum and what your username is, something like that) and then the discount should be added when he sends you an invoice.

The surrounds from eBay are nice, haven't removed the clip from the bottom since having it on, but the only thing I can say is you have to slighty bend the plates to get them in, but at least they are a tight fit :)

Alright lads! Just got off the phone, confirmed it's ok to go ahead with the 17 people for this and total cost will end up being £26.90, £20 for plates, £6.90 for recorded delivery of your plates and docs being sent back.

Now here's the process. I need EVERYONE who said they wanted plates to confirm to me before anyone does anything further :)

I then need to email Dubmeister with user name, real name and registration number of your car (PM for privacy) and then you guys need to send off your V5 and driving license, or whatever combination you're doing from the list I posted earlier to them.

At this point, you can either email them with card details a day or two after sending off docs recorded delivery) or ring them which will be easier and safer no doubt.

Hope this all makes sense but at least it's a go now :)

Drew - Yeah man get 1 or 2 pics for me and I'll sort something out, I'm meant to do one for Toro atm as well lol! Just haven't got round to doing it, may do it now...

The plates are nice aren't they :) and the surrounds, just a pain getting the plates in and out but at least they are secure. Also the design isn't the same as what everyone else has got, like the Autohaus Tuning marlarcy. Bet everyone will have these new ones soon lol!

AlexB & JamieGTI - No problem guys, thanks for the PMs :)

P.S. - List slightly updated.

Jamie - Was just thinking, I know your mate owns a Seat but just get him to sign up on here, it'll make life alot easier for me :)

Rhyso - It's just jealousy because this forum pushes forward on things like this and leaves others in the wind ;)

That was they will get them no later than Friday and you'll all have your plates by Tuesday I imagine :)

phoned and placed order :)

had a dilema and ordered them with the GB badge, have I done the right thing? :)

just a thought - do I post the details to the address on their website - ie:
Unit 1 West End Trading Estate
Blackfriars Road
Nailsea
Bristol
BS48 4DJ

Just an afterthought as the phone number on the website was wrong - just a recorded message with their new number, and I remember shady saying they were moving premises...

did try and call back to check, but the line is always engaged...

:)

Yeah they did move premises so that's a good point, stink dont send your shizzle to the site address. LOL! I just rang, send docs to:

1 Stockmoor Park
Taunton Road
Bridgwater
Somerset
TA6 6LD
United Kingdom

If you do send it to the old address, there's still someone there but will delay your order so they can send docs to the main premises :)

P.S. I personally didn't go for the badge, but that's because I have a green car, if you got a white, silver, blue or black car,  think it'll look fine :)

Okay, got through - their website has two different addresses depending on which page you look at!

correct phone number is:-
01278 444525

and address for documents:-
1 Stockmoor Park
Taunton Road
Bridgwater
Somerset

sorted :) cheers again shady :)

Not the best photo, but pressed plates (german font) with no surround.

I stuck them straight on, I did get surrounds in the end but always thought it looked cleaner without.

Only plus point to having surrounds is that you can change plates easier, so if you have some fancy show plates it is very quick and easy to put them in.

As a tip, I use trim tape and when you try to remove the plate it tends to snap in half or if a metal one bends out of shape.

Post by: kells on 10 March 2009, 09:54
plate theft is massive, no way do you wanna make it easy for them, in fairness its prob not as big of an issue on older cars as it is newer ones but id still not like the idea of them been easily removable

people that clone cars buddy, its massive you need to look into it

my mate had his done and got parking fines and speeding fines, and my other mate actually cloned a car... its the easiest way of making a ringer!!!

all you have to do is get a car the same and the same colour and bingo

Can anyone post up a close up picture that shows the small text at the foot of the plate?  I realise for legal reasons the place of manufacture has to be on the plate, but not too keen on anything too big as I would like "clean" looking plates.

you can't see that font from a distance and again it is a legal requirement..............

yep - just use some strong velcro   or they just clip in - depends on the type of plate holders you got
