hello ! i think this is the first mk4 2 litre GTI on the site ?
The hard pounding you're getting (ooer missus) sounds like dodgy ABS, your car must be fairly new so should still be covered under warranty.

ello kessa

your problem with the brakes is sounding to me like your front brak discs are warped? a new set of discs and pads will probably sort it!!, (unless your new to the mk4 golf which has ABS (anitlock brakes) which does when pressed extremely hard gives a on/off feel to the brakes to prevent skidding, the best way to tell is to brake gently at around 60-70 mph and if theses a slight pounding feel to brake pedal and maybe a slight 'wobble' ont he steering wheel then your discs are warped, so a bit of cash is required to sort this!! (not sure on prices off the top of my head but i think ?60 ish for discs and ?40 ish for pads from vw)

right as for you engine prob, (hard to explain if your not mechanically mided btu hear we go!!), 1st off you want your air filter checking (maybe dirty or inlet pipe clogged, (hence the up/down revs as engine trying to decide how much fuel is neede for the amount of air) if its dirty replace this 1st as its easy to do and not costly ?7 i think from vw, if the problem still persists then i think it maybe your MAF sensor on its way out (this sensense how much air is going into the engine and adjust fuel level accordingly) these are a comon fault on all of the mk4 range there about ?75 on an exchange basis form vw, i dont think theres alot more to think about with yours being the 2ltr 8v model until these have been checked/cleaned/changed, then if prob were still to persisit then we could think about other possilbe probs??

hope this helps a little??

Hi Kessa, welcome to the site.
Plenty of friendly people here, and loads of good information to be sought if you get any more problems.
Sit around for a while and let the other members spend all your cash and restyle your motor for you! you'll soon have a souped up rocket to give the F&F boys a run for their money, and not a Burberry stripe in sight  ;D

Hello Kessa.  Welcome.

I had a slight wobble on my steering when breaking hard (but nothing through brake pedal).  Thought it might be warped discs, but these are expensive and my pads were on the way out so just changed the pads, and re-lubed the calipers.  This seems to have stopped it!

The car will rev up and down a bit when you first turn it on due to the automatic choke trying to sort out the fuel-air mix.  Is this whats happening or is it doing it all the time?

I had a similar problem, and replacing the temp sensor fixed it (engine thought it was always cold, thus fooking up the mixture).

Hope this helps (only vague ideas sorry!)
Rich

P.S. get your ass to Santa pod on July 11th!

hello u crazy people!

thanx for all your messages......illl try all the ideas you've suggested....im sure it can't be anything much??? (im in denile) coz it runs ok most of the time........

....on a more fun note......can i chip a non turbo mk4???
Title: Re:new member, hello.........
Post by: richy on 24 June 2004, 14:12
Yep.  You wont get much gain (<10%) cos the 115 bhp 2.0 8v hasn't got much more to give, but its possible.

I'm thinking of chipping/remapping my 125bhp 1.8 20v non turbo too.  :)

hmmm....poo....i'd really like a v6 4motion............that'd do for now...
Title: Re:new member, hello.........
Post by: richy on 24 June 2004, 14:30
With a cold-air-intake system, a fancy exhaust and a remap you could probably get 135-140bhp tops.  I will struggle to get 150bhp out of mine with all that (absolute max), but I plan to do it  ;D
Title: Re:new member, hello.........
Post by: kessa on 24 June 2004, 15:43
how much would a cold air-intake system a fancy exhaust and a re-map (whatever that is????) cost?.....

couldnt i just get an engine management chip from a faster golf and put it in mine??.........or is that a really stupid girly question?????
Title: Re:new member, hello.........
Post by: kniterider on 24 June 2004, 15:54
best thing for yours kessa is an induction kit (k+n 57i or similar) and a chip/remapp (for your specific car!!! as not swappable!!) and then an exhaust system, there are more things you can do to up the power but they involve alot of cash!!

induction kit (K+N 57i)  ?75 ish
remap/chip   between ?250-500
exhaust system           ?300+

you could probably get about 130 bhp with this lot, the next step would prob mean getting a meatier camshaft!!

Title: Re:new member, hello.........
Post by: richy on 24 June 2004, 16:22
If you want more power than you'll get from that lot, you're better off just selling up and getting a 1.8T, as strapping a turbo/supercharger to your engine or getting new cams will cost a bomb! ;)  (Unless, of course - like me - you love your car and would prefer to spend money beefing it up)
