hey all while my dash is out of my mk2 golf i am thinking of making it look better instead of screw holes everywhere
can they be covered in thin suede/alacantra type of material or has anybody done or seen this before
i want something suttle not ott i think some new audis have trimmed dashboards
-
Im gussing you mean cover the whole dash in that material?
You can get it done by pro's by arround 500 quid i think materials inc, or try it yourself.
I will be doing what your thinking probably in summer when I have more time. I was planning on buying a new dash from ebay or scrappy then getting the material and doing it myself, you will need spray glue for this. The hardest thing is getting it right without bubbles, also the dash will be harder than door pannels for example due to the complexity of the different levels like the dials area going in deeper than other areas.
So yea, its possible but probably best if you buy another dash so you don't fu** up your own one, once you get it right you can then swap them over.

its called flocking, and really does set off the inside, i had my gtir done in alcantara, cost 650 quid, for dash, glove box, centre console and the a pillar where i had 3 gauges mounted
-
i am very tempted to get this done but I dont fancy doing the whole car if it does not match
i have standard gti door cards and rallye interior i need to find a picture of one thats been done
just bagged myself a vortex centre console tonight would look nice all done I aint confident on doing it myself
think it would be to tricky might go see the local trimmers see what they say
have you got pictures of your gtir give me a rough idea
thanks

There's loads of DIY flocking kits but the general regard is that they are terrible. If you want it done right, get a pro to do it, there was a company that gets rated v. highly for this - but I can't remember their name for the life of me.

That's the end result of flocking. A lot of rally/track cars have it done to stop reflections off the dashboard.
Contact Joe and see if he could pull off a nice stitched leather dash, that would look siiiiiiiick.

flocking isnt the same as using the alacantra material and for prices of this joe said to me
i can do dashes, but again they are very time consuming and something like a mk2 dash in alcantara is upwards of £350, alternatively i can get dashboards 'flocked' which is what rallye cars etc have, which gives a very motorsport effect that is hardwearing and easy to look after. this costs about £200-ish

leather stitched dash would look the nuts i bet price would be through the roof for that though
i will have a word see what he says is best
-
Sorry to hijack but just got another dash for a mk2 that would be perfect for covering pm me

having trouble now finding someone to do this my local trimmers are meant to be the nuts according to some people
