Title: Changing steering wheel
Post by: Max GTI on 20 January 2009, 14:55
Hello Guys

One of my friends said to me was I going to change my steering wheel and suggested the mk5 Edition 30 one to go with the anni theme. (red stitching)

I have thought about it and it sounds good and different, also my same friend has a mk5 gti and I like the feel of the mk5 one it feels better than the mk4 one. So my question is can it be done and will I be able to use the airbag,(hope I never have to ) and in the future I will change the head unit for an alpine screen so could I get the controls to work with the steeling wheel also.

Also if someone is good with photoshop could they photoshop a mk4 inside with an edition 30 steering wheel so I know what it will look like before I go ahead (If it can be done)

in a word NO

the splines are different and so is the airbag and indeed the airbag system - getting the electrics to work would be a nightmare

sorry mate

Go for an R32 one

He also a good point that an ED30 wheel would look good in an Anni a la red stiching. Never mind.

Does the Anni come with a standard GTI wheel? I always thought it came with a special snazy anni wheel . . ?

Anni comes with a red stiched leather wheel - tbh i think the red stiching is the only difference between that and the standard 3 spoke GTi one :undecided:

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

My boy hood dream is dead haha ()

Thats a bummer the one in the anni is a normal gti steering wheel (I think :undecided:) but I like the feel of the mk5 one cause it has flat bit and looks and feels more sporty and still standard.

Talk about burst my bubble (joking)

Rhyso is spot on his first post. The R32 wheel is the way to go in a MK4 GTI.

Are they not the same as the gti one just without the red stitching and r32 on them.

The Mk4 (3.5) cab S/W is not a straight fit onto the regular Mk4. ;)

i'd rate the R32 wheel over the anniversary anyway, not becuase of the looks, but because of the shape, the R32 wheel sports larger grips at 1:50, the flatter sides and just had a better feel than the standard shape.
