I've posted a few technical type questions on there before and never got an answer.

If you don't get any luck on here, try clubGTI.com - there's a big technical questions section on there and quite a few VW technicians who post on there as well.

Only just seen this thread. Wish I had better news for you but that all points to a wiring fault. Tracing it could be a nightmare. However the first thing to do is to check all the physical connections that you have access to. The temp sensor in the bumper is fairly easy to check.. it may have even just become unplugged. However, the puff of smoke you saw would indicated something has shorted :undecided:

I'm almost certain all of those symptoms are related to a single fuse for the Central Convenience Module (CCM) as this has to do with both the interior lights and the climatronic. Not sure which fuse it is now but i'd check every fuse in the fuse box to the right of the steering wheel. I'm almost certain it'll be this as a fuse is the first thing to go when you see a puff of smoke!! I've done it many times

Actually, just had a look in my Haynes - Fuse 5 (7.5A) is for Air con, heater blower, ccm, sunroof, electric mirrors, radiator fan, and heated seats. I'd put my money on that.

Let us know how you get on
