i was in my garage today ready to do a straight forward oil change and to my horror the person who had the car befor me had the car serviced by some stoooooopid numpty!!!!
they had stripped the thread in the sump and bodged it in with some sealer. so im stuck without a car and not able to get to work or even goto a breakers yard or dealers to find a sump.
anyone know if its gonna be too risky to re-tap the thread on the sump? the plug id fine as its is steal but the sump is ally. :undecided:

happens all the time fella, even vw 'technicians' manage to balls it up. It can be helicoiled, no need for a new sump.
-
Nightmare!!!
I take it it's a sump off job now then?
Any mods you can do while its off?
Google helicoiled

a mate of mine recons that you can re tap the thread. i bloody hope so cos i really cant afford to pay the stealers for a new sump
-
Yeah i would of thought you could re-tap it.
Depends what kind of bodge they made of the sump hole, hope its not too bad. :afro:
Could try a breakers for price.
I would watch out for the metal shavings when its tapped, :undecided: may need to flush it out the sump if you dont remove the sump.
-
wouldnt of thought you could just retap it, not with ally, helicoil is the best but REMOVE the sump to do it

if im gonna rove the sump i mayaswell just put new sump on aint i? but i can afford it at the mo

why it's only the thread thats damaged you dont need a new sump for a couple of quid repair just dont forget a new gasket and torque up the sump bolts.

its easy to remove the sump and helicoil it and it will be a proper repair
