Car went in for a service this morning. If they don't find anything wrong with it, I reckon I can afford to get that bad boy chipped/remapped - hopefully before Santa Pod. ;D
-
Dammit! They've just called me up with some stuff that needs doing >:( Looks like the remap is on hold :-[
-
whats up with it mate?
-
Bummer dude, what needs doing?
-
Brake pads are worn out, and brake fluid wasn't changed last time when it was supposed to be. ...To be fair, the brakes were fading recently.
Got 'em to check cambelt + tensioner (for free) ;) Kniteriders stories scared me. :o
-
how much are they asking to change pads and brake fluid?
-
Not gonna tell ya, cos I've already told em to go ahead and you're bound to tell me that's too much!
-
lol :D
I am quite cheap for pad and fluid changes.
I would charge 25 quid for brake fluid change, and 35 quid to change front brake pads.
Thats labour only of course, but pads and brake fluid shouldn't cost any more than about 25 quid.
If its cheaper than that then they are giving it away :D
-
My last service at VW a couple of months ago was discs and pads, front and rear, as well as a cambelt, and from what that cost I could take a good guess! That wasn't a chea day I can tell you!!!!
-
Unlucky mate, you will get that remap someday.
Doesnt anyone do D.I.Y no more
brake fluid and brake pads wouldnt take you no more than a couple of hours at the most, if you have done it before even less.
-
yeah today i did rear disks and pads and wheel bearings and shock absorbers took me just over three hours. have done it loads of other times tho. (mk2 gti)
-
he will be starting his own garage soon :D
-
in your new garage! (when you get it) :P
-
Yeah nice one :D
Now you mention it, i know who to call when i want a hand with anything :-*
-
Aint got no tools (or skill).

so how much did it cost ya ?
-
More than 10p but less than ?123,393.47
-
You've obviously paid too much if you don't wanna say :D
-
Probably - we don't call them stealerships for nothing.
-
Why you using a stealership?
I thought you found yourself a decent cheap garage.
-
Richy ... just asking abt the bad boy chipped or remapped , wot power will it deliver to extra from a 125 bhp mate ? And how much ?
cos my engine is same as your so i have been quoted 275 quid by upsolute with 12 bhp extra .
-
Yep. The bad boy I was referring to was my car itself.
Upsolute was what I was looking into. I think it's chipping as opposed to remapping tho'.

There was stuff I needed doing under warranty so I took it to VW.

I've stuck a question here:

about my new brake pads. Waddaya think? :P
-
Just answered on garage :D

For the price you prob paid someone to do the work for you you could have bough the tools you need. A socket set and a few bits and bobs is all you need. Surely you have some tools? sounds to me you have more money than sense or your too lazy,
good luck with the car anyway
-
Yeah. I realise that about the tools. Got little money, even less sense.
I'm just lacking confidence in getting stuck in, really. I'm fairly technically minded (I'm a software developer), but just go no mechanical experience.
Need to invest in some equipment :P

thats a bit harsh. some people just dont want the hassle.

Rac_gti,
I just got in contact with AMD, about remaps for our model and heres the reply I got...
"We offer a rolling road remap for this version which gives about +15bhp and about +10-15lbs of torque together with better throttle response and pick up. This takes about three hours to do here on our rolling road and is priced at ?350+VAT fitted. We are currently booking about 4 days in advance for this upgrade. Please call if you would like to arrange a booking."
I reckon this would be better than Upsolute, cos it would be custom tailored to your car, and is a remap as opposed to modifying the chip.
Result. 8)
