Title: Help! Is there anyone online who can give me some geatbox advice?
Post by: TimMan on 17 January 2009, 22:16
Hey,

I was driving last night abd went to change from 3rd to 4th but could not get out of gear!!

The gear lever is moving but feels a bit restricted, and all the linkages move although withe same restriction. The clutch is working as I can still drive and stop.

I think something in the box has broke, maybe a selector fork?  There is no grinding or any other sound that I would normally associate with a broken box.

Help please as I need to get to work monday morning, lol.

Is that fixable, or would it be easier to chuck a new box at it?

try selecting gears on the box itself, if they go in ok its a linkage fault, in this case use my linkage faq to fix it.  its in the MK2 section but its 99% the same in a MK3 (except 16v, VR6 and TDI models)
