Right then folks, I know the tyre / make size and discussion has been covered MANY a time but.............
I am shocked  at the price difference ( upto £12 a tyre ) between the sizes I am considering .
Currently running on 195/50/15s ( cheaper )- but was considering 185/55/15s due to some scrubbage issues.
So
1, what was the original tyre size for 15s on a mk2 ?
2, what do you run and why, size wise and are you lowered.
3, Toyo t1-rs or Goodyear Eagle F1s or Yoki Parada 2s????
And waits
-
195/50 R15 Toyo T1-Rs - grippy even in the rain. I've got mine to roll off the rubber on the tread blocks, but only on track. £35 + VAT fitted from Venture Tyres in Bristol.
You cannot go wrong IMO.

   how much

mines got 205/50/15 kumho ecsta
but they are poo so i bought a set of toyo proxes to fit next weekend
mine dont catch but the suspension is standard (AT THE MO )
-
well i found a good comparison site
http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/
and i have to say, knowing the price i can get them from, and the TOP reviews
i might go for :lipsrsealed:
Uniroyal Rainsport 2s

-
atm, got Toyo Proxes CF1's on the front an still got the Michellin E3A's on the rears, with the crappy standard 14" steelies (as ya know  )
185/60/14, which is also why I got the CF1's and not the T1-R's, they don't make em in 14" format  I will be getting Michellin E3A's when new rubber is needed again if I'm still on 14's, if I'm on 15's+ then I will try out the T1-R's.
imo the Michellin E3A's are better than the CF1's, although the CF1's are grippy enough in the wet and dry for everyday driving and for the 'OH SH!T I'M GONNA BE LATE FOR WORK' days.
-
how much
Was that a good 'how much' or a bad 'how much'?
The Pradas are supposed to be w@nk.

chuff ive got the rainsports atm and they arent as good as toyo t1r's (except in heavy rain, when they are the best by miles), but if you can find some of the old goodyear eagle f1's go for them as they are slightly better than toyos and wear a lot better
-
Uniroyal Rainsport 2s

I've been running them on mine for the past 2 years now, never been happier with a set of tyres. I've never had any other good tyres, so my opinion is biased, DH's price above looks not bad though.
What's also worth a mention is that although they have thick sidewalls, the ride comfort isn't compromised at all, combined with my new 15" alloys they are much more comfortable than the old 14" p slots.
My mate swears by them and has run them for years, but does think the F1's' are a step up from the Rainsports, he doesn't get them just because of the price difference.
I got mine at £23 a corner, fitted, balanced and tracked  Got to love having friends in the motor trade!

looked at the reviews on the F1s, not good at all :undecided:
think the rainsport 2s will win out at th price I can get
and DH - thats a JEUS H CHrist how cheap
-
was the review for the new assymetric ones? the old directional f1's rock!
-
the asymmetric ones got the best score. The F1 GSD3 got less positive feedback. Next set of tyres for me will most likely be T1R's though.

-
You're running CEAT tyres on that valver?
You tight cahnt!

I have.
Daily : 195/50/15 Eagle F1s. 6.5J VW Estoril Wheel.
50 profile because It is my daily and baloon tyres help with ride and progression of grip at the limit.
This car sees alot of B roads, pot holes and speed bumps and is only about 30/40mm low.
G60 : 195/45/15 Eagle F1s Slight stretch over an 8J on BBS RS.
Very low atm. handles like crap but looks good. arches cut, seam welded and re-protected.
I also have some 195/45/15 Toyos on some 6.5J G60 steel for track and winter use on this car.
45 profile gives better steering feel and nicer feel on turn in on track.
I rate the Eagle F1 for the progressive feel on the limit of grip. Good in all weathers except snow and Ice. In snow esp they are useless.
I paid around £32 ea IIRC.
-
Go for a 45 profile, get the wheels tucked up in the arches ever further.
As for tyres, get the best for your budget. But one person's choice might not be good for you.
Toyo tyres are good, Goodyear F1 Asymetrical are better. But hey that's my opinion.
-
going for a 45 profile increases price - a LOT
-
Where are you man?
-
near oxford
-
Location: Spongeville
-
I work in the tyre industry, have done for too many years.
But don't know anyone in Oxford, my old area runs out at Swindon. (Try Cirencester Tyres if you're looking for someone friendly!)
45 profile is slightly smaller OD than 185/60r14, meaning you'll accelerate quicker!
-
cheers mate, they are ordered now anyways - Rainsport2s are go
-
How much you paying for 'em?
-
£40 a corner all in - and thats on a special deal :lipsrsealed:
-
You definately feel the difference going from budget rubbish (sorry man!) to a branded tyre. Good luck.
-
£40 a corner all in - and thats on a special deal :lipsrsealed:
£23 a corner
-
 if i put £22 someone would still better it
-
Lol, maybe, but mine was cost price from the wholesaler, fitted, tracked and balanced too
-
well there ya go, mines over the counter to joe public prices, so i am happy enuff
-
blackcircles or mytyres had an offer on them a few months back ~ £40 fitted too - not a bad deal.
But I wish I'd more more than 4 at the time!
-
yokohama 005A's are what you need
-
Nangkang FTW  Best Tyres EVER like

Michelin Pilots Exalto 2's 195/50/15 £40 +vat from costco... free fitting.
The best tyres i've had, grippy in dry and great in the rain... full confidence in them.
The factory fitted size was 185/55/15.
