Title: Springs & Coilovers
Post by: prepree on 17 January 2009, 14:50
Hi Guys,
Looking to drop my golf, its standard set up at the moment and i have the 17"monza alloys, in the near future i will look at either 18 or 19" but looking to drop it first.

So i have the following questions as iv never dont this before, Im looking at 30mm F&R drop with Eibach Pro Kit Springs, is 30mm ok with future plans to up the size of alloy? Will it affect ride comfort massively??

My friend mentioned a coilover kit, however they are obviously mush higher in price is it worth it for every day use??

sorry if this is school boy question!!

Mine is dropped 40mm on 18 x 8 alloys and I just get the odd touch on maximum compression.

It will very much depend on how wide the alloys are and what offset rather than how low you go.

Which alloys are those Hurdy? The lightweight ones or the ed30 ones?

we use (and i've always used) KW V3's on our cars and if i'm perfectly honest they're great; they give you all the adjustment you could want on a fast road car and can be setup to feel just a little firmer but still oem and smooth :)

Thanks Hurdy - all im looking to do is upgrade to the 18" monzas, i believe they have an offset of 42
Im quite lucky with most of the roads where i live dont have many pot holes etc i just dont want to lower to much and end up with rubbing etc.

.... x2

Extremely smooooth at speed but hard, not harsh, at slow speed on broken surfaces.

I've just had VWR-KW-V3's fitted. The key to results is getting an expert to do the settings imo.

To answer your quezzie, £1,547.47 incl everything incl fitting WALK and wishbone poly bushes and corner-weighting and professional setting up. But they're not standard V3's but exclusive to VW Racing - Details in my review I can't post!

Robin, I've come across this limitation too when I did my boot install write up. The only way around it is to post the write up in two or three posts
