Hi,
Im looking for a 'how to' guide detailing the removal of the OEM head unit.
Ive tried the search facility and also the maintainence section, but i cant find anything.
Any help would be much appreciated!

I had to get some removal pins from my Stealer today leant me them said take them back when i'm finished. They look like a can ring pull but about 3" long
-
As said you need two removal keys.
Can be purchase from halfords for £3.99 you need the Euro ones marked VW.
Put the keys into the 2 slots with the hooks facing outwards and pull out.

Thanks alot - ill get on to it.
-
Or if you've got a broken hacksaw blade, use the 2 halves of those. ;)
-
you do NOT want audi keys you NEED vw ones as audi will not fit vw
-
Just go into Halfords and say you need the key to remove the radio from a MK4 Golf. They will tell you what ones you need (thats what I did).
-
Makes me wonder what's happening when someone has to ask how to remove a stereo!

Eh?
The reason i am asking is because i need to remove it to fit an Ipod adaptor, and i would like to be careful when removing the stereo as its going back in...

cut two thin strips off a credit card and stick them in the slots.!

^ I tried that and failed miserably.

Old post revival......
Searched on this but cant find wat I'm looking for.
I have removed the cd player part of the double din unit but need to remove the tape deck to get the into the wires to connect my alpine head unit. From what I can see the climacontrol unit needs to be removed with the rest of the central console just to get the tape deck out. Can someone help me with this please? Is it this difficult to get both units out or am I doing something wrong?
Cheers

Anyone??

To get the tape deck out get the keys from vw and theres little vertical slots on each side of the radio about 1cm in. stick the keys in there. wiggle them around and it will come out.
easy. No need to remove anything. i even did mine with 2 peices of metal as i dont have.the keys
