Title: Rear aero wiper help please???
Post by: ABOO on 16 January 2009, 15:11: Just fitted my new rear wiper motor. All straight forward, works a dream :wink:

Came then to attatch rear aero wiper. Tightened nut, tried clipping on old nut cover from original wiper and it doesn't fit or anywhere near :embarassed:

Should new mk 5 arm have come with a smaller cap to cover nut? If so I didn't get one. Can it bought on its own, or does it only come with arm.

Thought that would've been the case Rhyso. Will have to check rubbish I threw, but pretty sure there wasn't one :cry:

ah just remembered that sometimes you have to shave about 1mm off the bottom of your old cap to enable it to fit without touching the glass

Post by: player.777 on 20 January 2009, 08:34: No the new cap that comes with the aero wiper is completely different fitting to the old original one- I know because I tried to modify the original, one as its slightly smaller-so would look better, with little success. You definitely need the new wider cap to fit over the end of the wiper arm.

hmm i didn't though quite a few people did have to shave it down :undecided:

Post by: player.777 on 20 January 2009, 11:32: Strange, i originally put mine on without shaving some off- and when I turned the wiper on, it popped up, off the clip when approx vertical on the rear screen- in the end I had to shave quite a bit off so ensure it didn't pop off. weird.

If anyone needs it the part no from VW for the Cap is 6Q6 955 435A. Cost is £2 or something small anyway.

Spoke to dealer today and cap is a seperate part, so picking it up tomorrow. As said previously £2.

Finally be able to get rid of that awful rear wiper arm tomorrow. Also popped towing eye cover and new centre-caps on Montreals today. Amazing how such small things, can make such improvement. Drilled a little hole and tie-wrapped cover on so it doesn't go AWOL :wink:
